    -Town Hall

    Any I am forgetting.

I have not had Steel Toe so I am tossing that out but I would go like this:

    1. Schell: Been a huge fan of this for several years. Banana is there but also a bit of lemons and spice.
    2. Harriet: Right up there with Schells
    3. Town Hall: A slight notch down from the top two.
    4. Dancing Man: Used to like this more. Too boozy and syrupy but still a solid buy.
    5. Summit: I love Summit but this recipe needs some work. Too clovey and not enough banana.

New Glares Dancing Man is a great beer, but it is more of a weizenbock than a hefe so I can't really compare it to the other beers listed.

Wodan Weizen is the best MN Hefe I've had. Dancing Man is great too.

It's interesting that we're still talking about Summit Hefe, when they haven't made it in years. If I remember, I think they first replaced the Hefe with the Scandia (Wit), then later they killed that as well. Too bad, I always liked Summit Hefe.

Schells, NG and Harriet are all decent. And Harriet's Dunkelweizen ("Woluptuweiss") is good too. That's a style that's mostly ignored in the US.

[edit] I just realized that my profile photo is a tall hefe from Bamberg!

If I remember correctly, Summit killed their Hefe a couple years ago when they introduced Summer Ale. I miss the Hefe :-(

Throw Unshadowed by Ale Asylum on the list. I haven't done a side by side with Schells, but the Unshadowed reminded me of it.

I think they still included Hefe in their Summer seasonal pack the past couple of years, but they might have stopped that too.

ZAP lives in northern Minnesota, so maybe Summit's wholesaler in his area still has some of those packages? :grimacing:

Interesting on Steel Toe Hefe. I've heard a lot of good things but it seems to be kind of a polarizing beer based on a few replies here.

Love that harriet Dunkel. Thinking of grabing a growler of that if I am down this weekend. Doesn't look like their Hefe is available in growlers right now.

Yeah you are right on the Schell Hefe. I forgot they changed it. I much prefer the summer ale these days to that hefe.

It tastes much more like an American style wheat beer than a traditional hefe to me. It doesn't have the heavy banana and clove esters I look for it a hefe. It just tastes rather neutral, and airy.
