Does Heady (Alchemist) date their cans? I see nothing on the can and am going cross eyed looking over it. They can weekly so perhaps don't label but wondering why a hop bomb like that would be left undated.

    Nope.

If you got it in VT, it was canned that week. If you got it in trade, anyone's guess.

EDIT: And they needn't bother dating it because it sells out within its proper distro before the next week's batch arrives.

contrary to popular belief, it is in fact required by law for a code date to appear somewhere on the package - this could include the box that this undated can came in or could have ended up in.

…clearly that (if true) is a state law. Are you talking Minnesota? …or Vermont?

I'm in minnesota but I believe it's federal, since so much beer is distro'd nationally. No, I'm not going to go find proof  I'm ok with just being pretty sure.

I think every can I have had is fresh because it always kicks ass... Even when I open one a month after I get it

Hmm. I have seen dated on my Heady before. Unless I was mistaken?

Bottom side of the can, in a little rectangle, tiny font.

Not too sure if that's the date.

I've gotten Heady on three different occasions since April and they've ALL had that code written on the side.

If it's a federal law then there sure are a helluva lot of breweries out there that are in trouble with the fed!

    This is true:

Those dates are on every can made by Ball. It's the date the can was made.

So I'm guessing the law only applies to distribution across state lines because Heady cans are not dated nor are the cases they come in.

Ah! No wonder my 8 week old Heady was so fresh tasting and yummy!

Rest assured your heady was canned on a later date than the creation of the can itself :grinning:

Looks like it is not federally required.

"Is dating required by federal law?
Except for infant formula (see below), product dating is
not generally required by Federal regulations. However,
if a calendar date is used, it must express both the
month and day of the month (and the year, in the case
of shelf-stable and frozen products). If a calendar date
is shown, immediately adjacent to the date must be
a phrase explaining the meaning of that date such as
    “sell by” or “use before.”
There is no uniform or universally accepted system
used for food dating in the United States. Although
dating of some foods is required by more than 20
states, there are areas of the country where much of
the food supply has some type of open date and other
areas where almost no food is dated."

Mildly agree. I'm outside of New England, but I know whenever I find Heady at a store by me that it's fresh. It's always muled in by someone connected to the store, and it never lasts more than 24 hours.

Yeah...that's not the date unless mine was canned in 2018... I only asked because I have bought two batches of HT in VT fresh but now have to make sure I know which one are which or I'll never be able to tell em apart.

I wouldn't be that concerned. I was able to with stand temptation and keep one for 6 months and it still tasted delicious.
