What type of beers do you all like to drink during the summer when it's hot out? I seem to shy away from heavier beers, like IPAs, porters, and stouts during the summer heat. Recently I've tried most of the top tier wheat beers and I'm looking to move onto something else. Something that's not too heavy and on the sweeter side. Suggestions?

I enjoy a nice cold Sierra Nevada Summerfest on a warm summer day. It's not too light and has great hop characteristics for a mild ABV.

DFH festina peche not sure if I spelled that right. Its a great beer to drink in the summer if you can find it.

I find myself gravitating towards pale ales and hefes, generally, during the summer. More specifically I seem to drink a lot of Narragansett Summer, Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, Mayflower Summer Rye and, oddly enough, Long Trail Ale. Wachusett Summer is a favorite at the local ballpark. Not sure how many of those would be available in your neck of the woods though. Weihenstephaner might be, though you're looking for non-wheat beers so...

I probably shouldn't have even chimed in. I find myself favoring darker and heavier stuff these days and most of my favorite beers come out in the fall and winter. :stuck_out_tongue:

Usually wheat beers. I gave shandies and radlers a chance but they dont taste like beer to me.

American Pale Wheats are great session-able summer beers. Oberon and Goose Island 312 are my favs. I LOVE Little Sumpin Sumpin Ale but it's more of an IPA than a Pale IMO. I drink a lot of regular Hefe's too but they are harder to get locally.

Honestly for me during the peak summer heat months when its 90-100 degrees out, I go for AAL buried on ice. 'Gansett, Schlitz Gusto, High Life, Coors Banquet. Also keep a lot of canned Pale Ales and summer pilsners around. If a beer like Weihstephaner Original was put in 12 pack cans, I would drink a shit ton of that.

Normally I would make a smart ass remark joking about how an imperial stout is delicious on a hot day..

but honestly, I love to have a nice big stout on a summer night. A great beer to sip while watching a sunset or just pondering life.

That being said, wheat/wit beers and pale ales will probably be your best bet. Or you could always look for a beer with fruit in it as well.

Any Kolsch such as Reissdorf. On the cheaper side, Yuengling Summer Wheat.

I still like a good IPA in the summer. Quenches the thirst for me every time. I did have my first Hoppin Frog Turbo Shandy today that I received in trade. It is not something I would ordinarily have but sitting outside on a 90 degree, South Florida day it hit the spot.

I think I just drink less beer when it's scorching hot out. Since it hasn't come to that. I was shocked by how much I've enjoyed Flying Dog's Dead Rise aka the Old Bay beer. Refreshing but still tasty!

I actually really like IPAs and DIPAs on a hot summer day-- specifically, anything that leans toward the grapefruit/citrus hop profile. I find those flavors refreshing, and I also think they hold up better than most other beers if they get a little *too* warm when drinking outdoors.

Although not strictly "beer", I also go for some of the hard ciders if I'm looking for something lighter and more refreshing in the summer. Really like some of the ciders that Magners puts out, as they have good natural flavor, not too sweet, and go down extremely easy on a hot day.
