I usually like my beers big, rich and complex. With the summer months ahead of us now, I do feel that breweries should focus more on their beer being thirst-quenching, accessible and low ABV. That mostly means a thinner body and more water content.

That being said: are there beer styles you prefer more "watery" in general, even without the factor of it being a summery thirst quencher?

    - IPA/APA: though I definitely enjoy a good DIPA/TIPA, I usually find myself going towards the thin and hoppy spectrum. I will literally pick a Zombie Dust 90% of the time before any bigger IPA.
    - Weiss: enjoyed a Schneider yesterday, but couldn't help feel the body was a little too rich and filling for my liking. Especially with this weather. Shoot me, but I love myself a cold Erdinger in summer.

    Thoughts?

Your avatar is pure win. Another fallen hero.

I do not like watery beer, but if I was to choose, I would say some sort of APA or low abv AIPA. Finches IPA, Lagunitas IPA, Zombie Dust (not watery!). Something like that.

    American Pale Ale.
    Amber Lager.
    Blonde Ale.

Most of the time I prefer my brews to have a vicious malt body.

I can't think of any that I would prefer watery. Although in the summer months a good witbier with a light and spice body is very refreshing.
I'll drink a stout in the summer if the mood strikes me.

In the dead of summer, a lower-ABV, less than full-bodied saison is often exactly what I want.

Now that's an interesting question. I don't typically like "watery", washed out beer, and don't necessarily agree that Zombie Dust is thin/watered, but I can appreciate your point. Summers are great for easier bodied styles like wits and American pale wheats, and as you alluded to, most anything with hops that doesn't cross into the syrup spectrum with the malt balance is excellently refreshing in the heat.

Why is watery considered a fault in beer ? It was after all conceived as a drink to be consumed in quantity to slake thirst. There are thousands of low gravity beers out there which are a delight to drink and which seduce you into having another pint and then another and another.

Watery is putting a negative term on something that's not negative at all: low gravity beers. I prefer low gravity beers to high gravity beers almost all of the time. I'd never call any of them watery.

Watery implies no carbonation. I don't want any beer to be watery.

not really IMO have you had a flat imperial stout....? it's not very watery.

by watery In this topic I think it's like wet vs dry mouthfeel.

It also implies a thin body. Water is flat and has a gravity of 1.000.

Neither thin nor watery is equivalent to light-bodied. Beers with lighter bodies should be neither of those things, and there are plenty of styles that would be difficult to drink with heavier, richer, more robust bodies. Watery is a bad thing, as is thin, which people only fail to understand because they're thinking of a light body as either or both of those.

I can't think of any watery beer that I would like. But I do like one beer style on the "thin", I.e low abv side - German hefeweizen
