When Total Wines opens up they drop their prices to the floor and get everybody in their and as soon as they grow they will bring it back up.

Would you mind stating which liquor store you're affiliated with (seems pretty obvious from your collective posts)?

I rarely shop at Total Wine, but my prior experience in several SE states tells me your quote above is wrong. Total Wine prices were slightly lower than certain smaller stores and somewhat higher than others. Total Wine seems to fill a different niche than most 'Mom and Pop' stores (with TW moving more wine and high end spirits in particular) and it seems like only a handful of retailers like Surdyk's, Haskell's and Cellars would be direct competition.

Here's a serious question for you:

With all of that experience, how in the hell is it that are you unemployed? With the way that the Craft / Beer market is these days it would seem to be perfect for someone with your skillset (assuming that you are the right fit, of course.)

I'll tell ya: I was unemployed for longer than I'd care to admit, so I wish you the best of luck.

For those who care about the Total Wine in Bloomington license application process: there was a Bloomington City Counsel meeting on August 4th and they decided to refer the public comments to a special hearing.

"WHEREAS, the final decision on whether or not to grant the license will be made by the Bloomington City Council with the benefit of the record, Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law, and Recommendation developed by the Office of Administrative Hearings at a later date, most likely October 20, 2014"

Wow. That's BS. the MLBA must be lobbying the city council of Bloomington big time... What more does TW have to do besides bribe the city council?

Total Wine should say F-It and open up shop in Richfield or Eden Prairie instead.

They're already at France and 494...not sure why they need one in Bloomington, Richfield, or Eden Prairie at all..

Regardless, I'll be voting with my dollars (or more accurately lack of dollars).

They have 0 chance in either Richfield or Eden Prairie. They will protect their municipal cash cows to the end.

And you can bet that Edina is joining forces with the MLBA to keep them out of their back yard.

The France/494 location IS the Bloomington location that they are trying to get approval to open. It has been sitting there empty the past year, which is the whole problem.

Oh wow... I didn't know that wasn't open. Just see it from the highway. So they built it and put a sign up without have the proper licenses to actually sell anything? Crazy.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. TW bought that location last year and started their build-out, figuring that the licensing process would be mostly a formality. While it is 100% on them for making that judgement call, it seems they made it because they have never run into anything like the opposition they are facing locally, despite opening 100+ locations in 15 states.

Good thing you never wasted your time stopping to check it out!

Bloomington finally Approved Total Wine Liquor license - w/ no conditions tonight. As someone who attended the meeting I can say I was embarrassed that it took this long - and I fully expect a new Mayor and new Council member (the only 2 no votes) to be replaced next election. The entire city has a black eye imo over how this was handled and the discussion by this council (esp the Mayor and the one 'No' Council member) was beyond appalling.

Again Total Wine got Full approval - expect to see store open soon !

I went to the Burnsville store a couple of nights ago. Relatively limited local selection -- certainly nothing that I can't get on a more convenient locally owned store, very small cooler for the size of the store with mostly Bud Light and the like in it.. actually, pretty small for any size store bigger than a Quick Trip. The majority of their craft beer stock sits on shelves. Truly, the "big box" of liquor stores. I doubt I will be back unless I know they have something I can't get elsewhere.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Bloomington store open. Haskells on 98th is a touch more convenient for me, but I'd love to compare selections because I don't have quite the selection on my side of town that I'd like (Cheers over near 169 isn't bad, but I much prefer the Haskells). There's an MGM on Old Shakopee I've never been in, so I don't know how that compares.

Here, here brother... solidarity in the crappy Bloomington beer selection. the MGM on old shakopee is not great, btw. I usually end up at cheers (closest to me) or go to Edina.
