Good noon all you Fearless Friends of Fastenbier and Welcoming Warriors of Weizenbock, Happy New Beer Sunday.

Been hot on the ridge the last few days, and it was a hot morning today guiding discarded consumer products to their long trek to again becoming raw materials. Still not retired, my boss continues to give me the days off I need rather than see me go, so who am I to turn down a continued stream of income? Still can't consume beer, new or otherwise, though @doomXsaloon did convince me to try a half glass of his fresh and delicious Pliny clone last week. So good! Will be finishing these antibiotics on July 12, and man am I gonna enjoy drinking Other Half beers in NYC with some fellow BA's on that day!

Today is the day, and this is the place. Why not TRY a new beer today? TELL us about it. What do you taste, smell, and think? Do you LOVE it? Why? What do you love about it? Not your "cup of tea "(love mixing metaphors heheh)? What didn't you care for in the beer? Your review or a description that tells a story is greatly appreciated by all. Feel free to bash our butts (in rock fashion of course ) with linked review, pics, videos, and other world wide web wackiness to enhance our virtual tasting session.

Thanks to everyone for their participation, thus making NBS fresh, fun, and informative.

Today's first beer is Verdi, from Birrificio del Ducato, my first Italian craft beer!

Beautiful beer (whether you can tell from those photos is another matter), in a nice presentation.

Nice aroma, although fairly subtle. Flavor follows, but even more subdued than in the aroma.

The only flavor that really, really stands out? Tons of chile pepper heat (especially on the back-end, to the point that it comes across as a bit harsh at times).

Unfortunately, this isn't a 4.2% milk stout; it's an 8.2% imperial stout, and it just doesn't come across as such. Way to thin on the mouthfeel, and most of the flavors are just too subdued (at least compared to most American imperial stouts, arguably the benchmark for the style). Way closer to Guinness Draught than it is to Prairie Bomb!

Good beer though, overall. Just not worth picking up at anywhere near the price point. I would drink it again, but not over any good thick American imperial stout option.

A pretty harsh -rDev from me, but it just wasn't right up my alley.

    New American Amber Sunday

Good morning my craft beer loving brothers and sisters! Happy NBS one and all! Sending positive vibes to @cavedave in hopes that he is back to the land of beer exploration soon.

Sampled this tasty offering from Alabama. This was an American Amber with a punch in the face of American hops and enough malt to make this an envelope pusher! Wish I had access to this stuff all the time. Hope everyone is able to have a shortened holiday week and a great day!

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Aroma: Light floral hop nose up front. Mild caramel backbone asserts itself as it warms. Very well balanced between the floral hop and caramel notes each playing off each other and providing varying points of emphasis. Clean fermentation character.

Appearance: Dense brick red pour with a low off white head. Head retention is good. Appears still in the glass.

Flavor: Firm earthy hop bitterness with more floral hop flavors coming through. There is a hint of honey and toasted malt sweetness that shines through but is well balanced by the firm bitterness. Burnt caramel notes appear as the beer warms up. I’m really enjoying the interplay between the earthy hop bitterness, floral and piney hop flavors, and toasted caramel malts. Balance is to the hop bitterness. Finish is clean and dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. There is a touch of alcohol heat. Slight hop derived astringency.

Overall impression: Wow! This is big American Amber Ale. It has some “Bigfoot”-esque qualities about it. The malty character with the aggressive hops definitely push the envelope. I wish I had access to this all the time. Well done!

    [IMG] Hello fello NBS'ers!!
Another Sunday another new beer. Started out my day by finishing the last of my bottle of The Bruery's Mischief from last night, then moved on to the honey-doo-doo list. Now that I'm all done it's time to drink. This is Two Roads summer sessional Lil Heaven. I've had plenty of two roads beers and look forward to a private brewery tour on my birthday the 13th!! As the can says,as well as the package very crushable!! Under 5% abv and tasty!! Very light IPA, some tropical notes, almost like a little brother to Pliny. I'm going to enjoy drinking 12 of these sitting on m porch for the rest of the afternoon!!

Thanks to @cavedave for getting us started today and for helping to turn our discarded junk into new junk

I've been bad and procrastinated and now have to spend this glorious Sunday at home in front of the computer completing my mandatory continuing legal education. Thank god for beer! Oh, and if you happen to be at all affiliated with the Illinois Attorney Review and Disciplinary Commission, I assure you that my BAC is not interfering in any way with my completion of my ethical duties :astonished:

I am having a 3-Way IPA, the three-way referring to it being a collab between Oregon brewers Boneyard, Block 15 and Fort George. I got two of these as extras in a trade with @NW_IPAHEAD (thank you!!). I have to say that I am blown away by how good this is. This is the kind of beer that I can't sip--it is so good, I just down it and then am sad that it's gone! The aroma of this beer is incredible, but the flavor is what really puts it on top. A combination of Mosaic, Citra, and Chinook hops that deliver a huge tropical/citrus punch without being syrupy or cloying. It is crisp and each sip (or gulp in my case!) delivers the same hoppy delight without fatiguing the palate at all. At a reasonable 7.2% ABV, I wish I had a few more of these to help pass a what I know will be a long Sunday! I don't know the proportions of the hops in this beer, but have to say that I really like beers with Mosaic hops. Toppling Goliath's Sosus, of course is the ultimate, but other beers with some Mosaic just seem to have something a bit extra to them. From what I understand about Mosaic hops, the progeny of Simcoe, they are kind of a chameleon in that they have such a complex flavor profile, that they can enhance just about any other hop flavor. I say bravo to the developers of this hop and I hope to see and taste it in more beers in the future!

Oh, and I polished off the entire pint can of 3-Way in the time it took me to write this, which for me is quite an unusual accomplishment! If that's not a ringing endorsement for a beer, I don't know what is!
Happy Sunday BAs and NBSers! :grinning:

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

A good capped four to three finger tall and quite soapy shampoo like head, but still manages a big island cap of retention. Thickness is matched with pill and bacteria soap like shaped lacing on the edges. Body color is apricot orange amber with a very pale brass yellow to the bottom, and slightly cloudy.

Great nose. Hints of garden and floral aromatics, hints of spice and grapefruit to match with it a real nice subtle aromatic hop angle for a light IPA. Smells very inviting.

As per usual, light bodied mouthfeel, but not as wet as most session IPAs I've had, a little bit of ashen sweetness to go. Hop angle matches the nose, sort of coming out all varied in hints of citrus, tropics, herb and earth. The spice angle comes out mostly with almost a peppery notes strangely, with a fruit sweetness that while the bottle mentions grapefruit, doesn't seem that distinct or obvious.

Overall a solid Sierra brew and one expected from these guys.

    ---------------

I do think the Session IPA is played out, and it's really not one I think about grabbing off the shelf and just having a few at the side.

Once again getting more new beers in today perhaps, but the games are on... time to hibernate.. was a big soccer day yesterday as well..

Time to get pumped for Tuesday... have a great new beer Sunday all!

So I learned something rather unpleasant this week but hopeful in it's way. I learned that utopia is just "motivation." I am looking forward to the little heat wave that is coming and I am so glad I stocked up on beer. Today I tried Victory Wild Devil. it's impeccable and quite well done.

Pours a beautiful firey copper orange with some golden yellow hues. A fat head of very off white foam that lasts and leaves lace . A few bubble making their way to the top amid perfect clarity. Nose is powerful and funky. Citric tartness and citrus zest. A lovely perfumey and powdery hop flora. A bit of earth, some sweet bread for malt and a delightful bit of orange that is subtle but not to be denied. Drinks gracefully with all the flavors coming together balanced and with a kind of panache. The orange is juicy and a bit subtle. There is grapefruit peel and tart citrus. The yeast is earthy and funky and dry. The hop floral translates into the drink and as it warms a bit of spice comes through on the nose and on the palate.

The mouthfeel on this one is creamy and and with a bit of softness underlies a powerful collection of earthy and funky flavor with some fruit and a soft breaddy sweetness that keeps you going back for more as a sharp bitter finishes this one dry.

Happy NBS. I started off with a sour today before moving my mailbox back from the curb before the city fined me.
It is very warm and humid in Southern WI this weekend, so I need to stay hydrated.

Incorrigible from New Holland is listed as a Berliner, but it is not exactly a Berliner. Notes of vinegar, lemon, tart apple, sour grape all collide on the palate. Not quite sure what the finish is, but it has a distinct taste, most likely from being aged on oak. It's a great beginner sour and the price is south of $5. I plan on picking up a few more to enjoy this summer.

Just finished my lunch; pan made pizzas. Think of a Quesadilla with only one whole wheat tortilla. It was delicious.
I paired it with a Lake Louie Mosquito Beach. A nice CA Common Lager that has a light hoppiness to it. It starts off with some sweet amber malt, light caramel and then moves into citrus and floral hops. The bitterness is present, yet faint.

Pours a pretty typical porter deep brown/ light black with a very small, thin mostly white head. Not strong in the aroma department. Light coffee, cocoa, and some yeast. Taste has some chocolate/ cocoa bean and roasted malt flavor, slight coffee, a little more sweetness than bitterness, and a decent amount of yeast (obviously leading to the sweet taste). It is a fairly thin body with above average carbonation. Not at all a big robust porter by any means. Very drinkable though. Kind of like a thin/light, sweeter version of a Framminghammer minus the barrel characteristic. Yoo-rah-tuh try it. Overall, pretty good. 3.75. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/2447/112346/?ba=WesMantooth

Sweet and boozy (rum, in particular) with big fat dark fruits and lots of spice and lushness. My quad faves include St. Bernardus Abt 12 and various entries in the Pannepot line. This is right there. Awesome.

I split the bottle with the wife, which I am instantly regretting.....because this is freaking delicious! I can see why people love NG's fruit beers so much.

Aroma hints at a Lambic, with cranberries and cherries, and a light, tart yeast. Flavor is super sweet, and has huge apple notes. The berries are present with a soft sweetness; this is surprisingly not-sour.

If I had any complaints? It might be a little too sweet; the only thing separating this from the best Belgian fruit Lambics is a little more funky yeast presence (as it is, there is very, very little). Both of those might be improved with some age, but alas, I have only one bottle. I'll have to settle for it being outrageously delicious, instead of perfect.

Oh, and 4.0%? Love it! Drinking it, I had absolutely no idea where the ABV lay; it could have been low, high, or in between. Review below.

Figured I'd have a go at some Sweet Action on another sweltering Florida afternoon:

Orange/amber color, very nice frothy head.

Aroma is definitely citrus; very pleasant overall.

Taste follows the aroma; this one seems more like a pale ale or a "mild" IPA than a cream ale. Decent balance of sweet and bitter; very easy to drink if you don't mind the rather prominent citrus undertone.

A decent beer all in all; not something I'd go out of my way to obtain again, but very refreshing on a hot summer day

    New (to me) Saison Sunday

I've had the '13 dry hopped version, along with the organic Foret, but never this (simply put, I didn't want to risk getting an old, skunked bottle). So when I saw this relatively fresh bottle, I had to jump in. Sadly, it was a bit skunked, but not horribly so. And I don't fucking care - this beer is classic for a reason. It's just so damn effortless going down, yet it retains a full body and complex profile I expect from a world-class saison.

Needless to say, I was really impressed by this.

Okay, so the music doesn't fit the beer I'm drinking. But I can't think of any other metal album where the melodic tendencies actually make it sound more evil instead of more accessible.
