Batten down the hatches, once the little guy gets his sea legs he will be trying to cruise everywhere. Awesome about the Brooklyn, has allways been one of my favorite chocolate stouts. It is even more fun when blended with Founders Rubeaus.
    Cheers

    New Shandy Sunday

Hello, NBS! This week and next I've spent in Massachusetts, where I disguise a beer trip as a trip back to see the family. Was at Tree House yesterday and will be going to Night Shift and Hill Farmstead this coming week. Today however I open up a Narragansett Del's Shandy, which I'd been looking forward to trying for quite some time. There's a big nostalgia factor for this ex-New Englander.

What did I think? For what it is, it's quite good. It will be far from a chore to finish off the sixer. Nice and lemony in a zesty way, quite sweet, with a healthy dose of American Lager flavor in the background. Just enough to know you were drinking a beer.

    Until next time,

    Cheers!

Back for more! Back for more !

Today I was tooling around LA. Listening to the Angels play against the Royals and in between one of the innings I heard a craft beer ad on the radio! It tripped me out. I was wondering if any of y'all have a brewery in any town that does this - or any other kind of marketing similar to this. Like tv commercials or radio ads - billboards etc . Anyways I was intrigued to stop by a bottle shop and find something bootleggers-
I found an IPA. In the land of IPAs - big whoop right? Maybe but so far this is a winner

    4.1/5 rDev -0.2%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Bomber sized bottle found at Bills liquor in Atwater village

This beer has a great look- orange with a super white head that leaves lacing around the glass as you drink it down. Carbonation bubbles goin wild when this beer is super cold - I'll wait a bit to sip

Smells of crazy citrus fruits. Fresh squeezed oranges and cantaloupe. This aroma stands out, not run of the mill at all

Taste is pure balance - malts and hops battle on the palate. No one wins! They fight till the end - malts shine and so do the citrus forward hops - making this a delicious taste

Mouthfeel is thick with not much carbonation. Aftertaste is brief. Almost the same when it's cold to when it warms up-

Overall this beer is a winner and I will definately be searching for it when fresh

    Serving type: bottle

This little beats pill packs a big punch- this is what I listen to all your music in-

Last week it ran out of battery while playing Rime of the ancient Mariner (waaay too freaken long) and this week it's been playing mastodon - both being out of my comfort zone but I gotta say, it's real dope to tune in to anything y'all are hearing . I'm always up for something I've never heard before. Except SHOWTUNES! @utopiajane ! Ahahha jk jk you rock

Greeting again and time for New Hoppy Beer Sunday,
Now that we are getting the second shift rolling and the day is finally winding down enough to enjoy something from Terrapin Brewing. [IMG]Enter Hopzilla

Pours a nice cloudy orange with a cream colored two finger head that settles nicely coating the edge of the glass. There is citrus and ripe melon in the nose along with some biscuit. A little dank. Tastes of pine, mango, tangerine, some caramel notes. Nice mouthfeel overall, resiny, a little sweetness with a light spicy bite and some mustiness on the finish. An interesting brew overall, somewhat remniscent of early batches of Devils Dancer. Thanks @dsigmon.
Cheers and a good week to all.

Awesome. A judge will have to have lawyers explain to him why their client should be allowed to keep their "morning wood."

Can't believe I missed the thread earlier. Had two beers today, but I'll post the one I've wanted for ages and finally tried.

    Short's Key Lime Pie

Bottled 6/18/14. Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint 6/29/14. $2.49 single. I've been wanting this since I first heard about it a few years ago, despite its underwhelming scores.

Appearance: Aggressive pour gives off a pop-like head that goes away quickly. The beer is a hazy dark amber color. No lacing. (3/5)

Smell: Mostly unlike key lime pie. Smells more like the graham cracker crust. Lactose-y sort of milk aroma. Maybe a hint of sweetness probably from the limes, but it's not super pungent. (3.5/5)

Taste/feel: That's a bit more like I was expecting. Sharp lime acidity at the start with a good lime flavor, but then a heavy biscuity sort of malt character at the end with sweetness to cut the lime a bit. The lime acidity is more prominent than an actual lime flavor. The graham cracker flavor helps give that sweetness and biscuity character on the finish to mellow out that almost lip puckering lime. I don't really get a creamy sort of quality that I associate with key lime pie, which is disappointing, and I'd never guess this beer was brewed with marshmallows. The feel is middle of the road with a moderate body and carbonation. Works pretty well. (3.75/5, 3.75/5)

Short's should consider an "imperial" version of this beer to see what happens. Make it a thicker, higher ABV beer, and get some more of a creamy quality into the beer. The graham cracker and lime tartness are perfect, but the full lime flavor and creamy sort of flavor isn't there like I'd want it to be.

Overall, it's a beer I'm absolutely glad to have FINALLY found and tried, but as a whole, the beer doesn't completely come together. Regardless of that, it's still a tasty, interesting beer that'll no doubt get people talking if they see you drinking it. By comparison, it's similar to Short's Cake with lime in place of strawberries, but I think I may like this one a liiittle bit more.

    (3.75/5)

Thanks to my NE friend walderek for this one...

The Alchemist. What can I say, definitely not a "one trick pony." This is a great old school Imperial Stout.
Weather here today...friggin' hot. Thus, not exactly RIS weather, but I felt compelled. Damned glad I did.
Cheers to All. Glad to see Matt popping in.

I see you've also tried Knuckle Sandwich. Hey Man, you gotta come out to Fullerton and try the Lupulin Thrill (West Coast style ) IPA, when it's avail. And the Rustic Rye is solid too, nearly always on tap.

    New Cascadian Dog-themed Sunday
    It's been a good week.
Finished an NCLEX prep course (yes I'm that kid this time. Money back guarantee to pass first try ftw!), and rediscovered/remembered how beautiful the City of Subdued Excitement and its surrounding parkland are.
Came home to my island and instantly jetted back off to add to my retinue: Porter and I will be navigating the excitement to come together for the next ten-fifteen years. Not only is she (clearly) adorable, she's AMAZINGLY well behaved, intelligent, responsive, calm, loyal, and friendly (isn't that what everyone says about their new puppy/baby/spouse/...car? No, maybe just the first two...). I have been incredibly fortunate in my life to have been able to share it with the four legged companions that I have. All indications are that this particular ten week old (when do I start measuring in months?) is a strong continuation of that legacy.
Of course the day after I bring her back to the island, we finally decide to move on the ridiculous ant infestation in the wall behind where the old shower used to be, so next thing I know, a veritable sea of poisoned dead ants are carpeting the house. Needless to say I'm stressed to all hell that Porter, the inquisitive little bugger that she is, is going to find and ingest one of these dead little invaders despite our thorough (sweep, mop, vacuum, mop again, vacuum again, all after having moved every stick of furniture out onto the porch -- thank atheismo it turned into a nice day), and my sweet little baby (deal with it) is going to become neurologically damaged or die or... I don't even know what. We're sleeping outside in the hammock tonight.
Being back on my island Sunday's are verboten for drinking until after community basketball (an old rule that I still think holds quite a bit of value), so it's always so titillating to read y'alls new ex-beer-iences (enh? eh?) throughout the day, knowing that I have several exciting bottles waiting for me, but that I cannot crack them until I get home around 11/1130 (which also limits me to one new beer per Sunday. I'm sure my scale appreciates the restraint). I've got the SN 4-way IPA pack sitting outside so I was tempted to join Smakawat in that Nooner, or to double dip in the CDA with the Blindfold, but alas, self control in the afternoon, and arbitrary time constrictions on the back end help me maintain self control and limit myself to just the one this evening.
And what a one it is. I was debating between this and the Chinook IPX from HUB, and ended up settling on this CDA for two reasons: one, I've had it longer (by a couple of days, but whatever! every second counts when hops are involved! Right?), and two, it felt more appropriate an homage to my new puppy. It's not a porter, per se, but it's much closer than the standard IPA, I didn't have any viable porter options, and it really did pour basically her exact colours (Besides... Lagunitas' mascot/emblem/whatever the appropriate term is... is a dog). Porter is my dogs name in case that was not obvious. And yes, she has porter-like colourations (you should see the deep/ruddy brown undercoat shine through the black in the afternoon sun [OK, I'll stop, I promise...]).
NightTime is another one that I feel Lagunitas absolutely nailed. From a beautiful pour (might be biased), to a juicy tropical aroma that belies the dark nature underneath to a well constructed palate blending the bitter and touch of juicy sweetness that can accompany the hops with a smoothe dark backbone, utilizing the fruit-sweet of the hops to blend to the softer aspects of the dark side, and bringing forth the bitter bakers chocolate of the malts to compliment the hops in an exquisite manner. Buy it. Drink it. Love it. I did!

So, I won't be participating in the race to the... well race to the 60s pop charts anyway this evening, as this (not quite as old but still) classic has been stuck in my head somewhat randomly the last couple of days. Cheers everyone!

My thoughts exactly. I drank it from the can and dug it for the most part, but the sweetness is a bit much after about 12 ounces. However, it was good to feel like a kid drinking Del's again!
