hi, folks. been a long time since i've been active, but i'm getting married this october and our venue is letting me bring four of my own kegs and they've graciously offered to supply unlimited bud lite to boot! i'm having a little trouble narrowing down my selection, so i thought i'd ask here.

here are some of the contenders:
    1. double jack
    2. sculpin
    3. lagunitas sucks
    4. lagunitas undercover

    appreciate the suggestions/advice.

Uh, how many people are attending? 4 kegs (I assume 15.5 gal?) plus unlimited bud light is a shitload of beer.

whoops, i meant four soda kegs (5-gal). if it helps, i was planning to buy from bobby's, but we're not restricted to this list, necessarily. (http://www.bobbysliquors.com/kegs/craft-speciality). might need to throw mongo or dogfish 90 on there...and now you see my problem.

You should have something besides hoppy beers available. A nice imperial stout like Stone IRS and maybe a fruity saison would be great at a wedding.

Forget the four soda kegs. Negotiate for just one 15.5... And nab that Pliny keg for the steal of $25,000.

No way... if you are getting one 15.5 its gotta be the red barn.

    Yeah...

If I was going to do 4 corny kegs at a weeding it would be...

    Your favorite IPA
    Your favorite Saison
    A light lager
    Stone RIS

"What is a beer that taste like Blue Moon?" That will be a question your guest will ask, so go with something similar.

Lol. I wonder if they get sick of people asking if they can get pliny kegs

I'd take ABV in to account. Things could go south pretty quickly with Double Jack or Undercover!

good beers, but not a really great variety. unless everyone at your wedding is a craft beer nerd

1.allagash white - people who dont even really like beer very much will still enjoy this. or a beer like FW solace
    2.your favorite SINGLE ipa
    3. trumer pils or anchor steam
    4.telegraph porter

Keep a couple light kegs around. The last thing you want to see or randomly hear is "Bud Light plz" when you got deliciousness on tap.

I agree with the Stone IRS and some single ipa.....granted if you got the funds or else hint at your significant other to be that a keg of pliney would be absolutely fantastic.

Last wedding I attended was hosted in Dells, WI, the New Glarus kegs...oh man...granted it was only Spotted Cow and Fat Squirrel, but still quite a treat for a southern CA boy.

I recently catered one with all F/W - Solace, Pale 31, DBA and UJ... I think a good mix is key.

    great suggestions!

the shop can't get any RR and even if he could, i'm sure he'd need to represent a massive account to get a pliny keg. not a fan of saisons, but it looks like we have a general consensus on:
    1. favorite ipa (prob sculpin or union jack)
    2. stone irs
    3. something light: anchor steam / full sail's session / allagash white (thanks pinkgrenade)
    4. wildcard...maybe still go with undercover.

    thanks, folks!

watermelon wheat might be a really great choice to throw in! people who aren't crazy about beer will generally enjoy a wheat beer.

i wouldnt reccomend stone irs, and it hits shelves in april, so im not sure you are gonna find any anyways. while its a solid RIS, i just wouldn't have a RIS in the mix. high abv/too much flavor. i think a porter is less alienating while still getting some nice flavor.

take this advice from someone that bartends/oversees many beer events and what people gravitate too. but, like i said earlier, maybe all your guests are beer nerds. but if only 10 are, i would avoid going crazy on choices you love, and stick with more middle of the road beers.

watermelon wheat might be nice~ haven't had serpents stout, i'll check it out.

forgot stone IRS wasn't a year round~ i haven't been drinking stouts and porters lately, so i'll need to start up again to narrow down the selection. i'm personally not a big fan of porters, either, but i need to keep in mind that i'm not the only one drinking and not everyone wants an ipa. :astonished:

Don't underestimate the importance of name-recognition and comfort to the typical guest. It would be a good idea to have one keg be something easily approachable and made by a well-known producer such as Stone or Dogfish so the guests not heavily into craft beer don't feel lost. The lighter beer also accomplishes this, but there's lots of people out there who dismiss the Blue Moons because they only drink Stone products - but won't touch something they've never heard of like Sculpin.

i see what you're saying, but feel like when the beer is free, they're going to be more willing to sample the options.

They're just going to drink the Bud. Choices are an interesting concept. While we like to think people are adventurous, when confronted with too many choices or choices they are not familiar with they will return to what they know - even when they also know that choice may not be the best overall. Familiarity is huge.
