    Picked some up @ Bottlecraft yesterday.

    Also, I thought this was supposed to be Nelson Sauvin hopped?

    "Oneida is all about the hops, which in this case are Hallertau Blanc, Cascade, and Experimental Hop 05256. Hallertau Blanc is a new German variety that is very fruity/white wine grapey; it’s the German growers’ attempt at a Nelson-like hop. They largely succeeded, but it doesn’t have the dank bass note that Nelson does, which is why we added the Experimental Hop 05256 (it’s like a fruitier Simcoe)."

    Beachwood today, around 6 pm. I have extra bottles in case of any interest.

    Right. But it used to be hopped with Nelson. Am I wrong?

    BA's description;
    Oneida is Nelson-centric. The dark fruity dankness of Nelson hops from New Zealand give it an uber-pungent aroma, with the grapefruity citrus of Cascade providing a touch of balance. While more aggressively bitter than Fortunate Islands, Oneida still has a light body and moderate ABV. 50 IBU
    HOP VARIETALS: NELSON SAUVIN • CASCADE
    MALT VARIETALS: PALE MALT • CARAPILS

    Other sites description;
    COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
    A dry, cracker-like malt body paired with a huge helping of Nelson Sauvin and Cascade hops. Our approach is similar here as it is with Fortunate Islands: somewhat restrained bitterness, but massive hop aroma and flavor. When we piloted this beer, we loved how the fruity dankness of the Nelson paired with the grapefruity zest of the Cascade.

    Yes they had quite a bit on the shelves and in the cooler.

    I believe it is more that they adapted the recipe due to what they had a available. Maybe @ModernTimesJacob could chime in.

    Either way, the recipe is not the same as when Oneida first came out.

    We did indeed change the hop bill, less because of the rarity of Nelson hops and more because we already have a predominately Nelson-hopped beer in Blazing World. So we wanted to mix it up a bit, and we were impressed with the Hallertau Blanc samples we tried (Hallertau Blanc, btw, is not any easier to get than Nelson). @MiScusi's post above with my email newsletter description explains the thinking and the addition of Experimental Hop 05256.

    The first batch of Oneida was brewed about a year ago, right when we opened, and it was Nelson/Cascade. We liked that beer a lot, but I felt like it could be improved, particularly with a fuller body and more complex hop profile. We released a draft-only second batch of Oneida about a month ago, which was Hallertau Blanc/Cascade (this is the batch that's been on-tap in the tasting rooms; we still have about 7 kegs to get through before the bottle-version goes on-tap). I like that version a lot, but I felt like it needed a touch of dankness to balance all the fruit character, and, again, a slightly fuller body.

    The third go-around, which is the batch in bottles, completely fulfilled my ambitions for this beer. I think the three hop varieties play exceptionally well together, and the body, bitterness, and aroma is spot on. I am 100% confident that it is the best batch of Oneida yet, and I'm very, very pleased with it overall. This beer will definitely be coming back--as it is currently formulated--at some point in the next 12 months.

    Thanks for bringing this thread to my attention @PlinyTheYoungest; always happy to answer any questions.

    Cheers & thanks,

    @ModernTimesJacob: will we be seeing bottles in L.A. soon?

    Planning to visit you guys on Friday night, after the Giants/Padres game. Will you be there? Would love to say hello.

    Unfortunately I don't really know where the bottles will land until a week after the fact (unless we're doing an event or something). We delivered the bottles to Stone on Thursday. They don't tell me when they transfer our beer from Escondido to their L.A. warehouse, but I assume they'll be available for ordering in L.A./Santa Barbara/Ventura this week (and it looks like at least one place in L.A. got theirs this morning).

    Actually, I'll be up in L.A. starting Friday afternoon, so we'll be switching spots. But let me know the next time you'll be at the brewery & I'll show you around.

    Cheers & thanks,
