The Substance: Bad Batch?

The substance was in Bier Cellar around 2ish. I picked up two 4-packs today and can't wait to open one up later.

 

Hey guys, just wanted to chime in real quick. We had to pull down Substance from the site for holds because it was touch and go there for a bit on whether we would receive any this week. This delivery this week was a small drop, we will be back to regularly scheduled delivery next Thursday, July 3. This thread should be called ridiculously outstanding batch. I just got some on Saturday. Its world class. I can not find a fault in the 2 of 4 cans I have tasted. I actually think its hoppier than it was the last time I had it. In a great way. Keep it up BB.

 

MVP I completely agree. This recent two batches have been knock your socks off dialed in. Been drinking fresh Julius/Haze, Dinner/Lunch and some HF, it is totally on the same level of quality.

 

Picked up cans from Bier Cellar last weekend during my trip to Maine. Fantastic beer. I grabbed two cans from a friend a while ago, but they had some age on them and I wasn't very impressed. This latest batch, as other posters said, is fantastic. Would highly recommend -- this beer is right up there with Lunch for me and the price point is excellent.

 

So I didn't get any at the Bier Cellar on Friday as there was none to be found. I simply drove 10mins up the road to the brewery and got a bunch of 4-packs. Tastes outstanding.

 

Any reason why this thread title hasn't been changed (assuming it can be?) The OP already stated that the batch he originally posted about ended up great and the first impression was likely a palate issue, and every single post here is about how awesome this beer is. Seems a shame to have a thread consistently on the front page that, without clicking on it, suggests that this beer is having problems. Just my thoughts.

Just got my hands on this on tap at Central Provisons and holy sh*t it did not disappoint. This beer is great - reminds me of Congress St from Trillium. Got yet another reason now to take trips to Portland!!!

 

I know there is a truck sale today, but does anyone know if they'll be doing another truck sale on Saturday? Anyway, I think they've done it that way in the past.

 

Truck sale? This is news to me. I know they canned today, distributed, and are selling out of the brewery this weekend but I've never heard of them doing a truck sale.

 

My bad. I meant to say brewery on-sale with food truck on site. I thought I saw a tweet that said they were selling cans today. Since I tend to drink a bit more than I ought to, it is entirely possible that I misread the tweet, or worse, imagined it entirely!

 

Haha no worries. Their BBQ on Sunday sounds dope. Lots of new beers flowing and good food. May have to check it out.

 

They're open today for pours/sample, but no cans. Looks like 15 cases of The Substance available tomorrow, and 15 cases on Sunday - Although down to a two 4-pack limit per person. Recommend going early... Happy Hunting.

Just had this beer for the first time this past weekend on my trip to Old Orchard Beach @ Jimmy The Greeks on tap. I have grown really tired of IPA's in the past several years but this beer really blew me away. The best IPA that I have had in quite some time.
