I emailed Ballast Point (Director of Sales) a couple of weeks ago about some really outdated beer I bought. I was unsure of the dating code, wanted some clarification. I got an almost instant response back from the sales director and clarification of the date. (side note, he was on vacation at the time bc I initially got an out of office response) He then went on to ask for my mailing address. Today I received an awesome package from them including a great Pale Ale tshirt, a six pack of Pale Ale, and a couple of bottle openers. Totally unnecessary, but really appreciated. Just wanted to put this out there as service like this is rare these days.

How do you decipher their code?

Oddly, the AZ bottles I've seen recently have no code. (did not buy, did not buy).

They might have a license to ship? Pretty much how Pelican ships MOAS.

Well it's a gift so he's not selling directly to the consumer. As for shipping laws....

The beer I initially bought locally at a crap liquor store was 6 mos. old, according to Ballast. It actually tasted like a lager, I guess that's what happens when the hops fully fade away. This new beer that they sent me, well it's a much different story. :grinning:

We finally have BP here in OH and there is a best buy date printed on the neck. However, as we have all experienced, it is often rubbed off. Always nice to hear about a brewery making good. Cheers!

Seriously. That code is confusing as all hell. I think the shop by me had fresh sculpin. Couldnt begin to even tell what the hell the code was so just walked away.

    Cheers!

Hats off to Ballast Point! Great customer service in an age when word-of-mouth does more for your company than an advertisement via social media. Love the one-two punch of Sea Monster and Victory at Sea!

Cool. I had the same thing come up with a local brewery. Took a few days for a reply, but i was ok as long as i got a response. The Owner asked for my phone number and said a rep would be in touch with me for some fresh stuff. Well that was 3 weeks ago and i have yet to get a call:slight_frown:

It should taste similar to a lager, as it is a Kolsch.
I do not like BP's Pale Ale at all.

"There's no wonder why our Pale Ale is so popular--it is skillfully crafted in the style of the Kolsch beers of Cologne, Germany. We've chosen German hops for aroma, and rounded out the recipe with a blend of American and German malts.

While it is very much like a pilsner, our Pale Ale is fermented at ale temperatures, giving it a subdued fruitiness--a perfect compliment to the crispness of the wheat and maltiness of the Munich malt. If you like a lighter brew but also like the complexity of craft beers, then our Pale Ale is for you.

So.... forgive me if I missed it somewhere above, but how are the bottles dated?

Date stamped? Or do they use a code like Sierra?
