I'm having a crisis. I love beer. OK, that's not a crisis. I love beer and I have too many great beers in my fridge and cellar. Right, not a crisis either....

The crisis/question that needs BA's input.... With so many great beers out there, how may swills does it take you before you would consider it acceptable or actually pour a sub-par beer down the drain?

I've dumped the last sip, and I've dumped after the first sip.

Jumping in before all the "real men don't drain pour" posts: one.

I give it 3. I let the temp change between each though.

If I don't like it I move quickly to something else. There is a limited quantity of beer I drink in one session so don't like to waste accumulated ABV on something I don't really like.

A few at least. I don't think I've drain poured before drinking 1/4 though.

Wait, scratch that. I drain poured Chronic Ale after like 3 sips. That stuff was just awful.

The more you drain pour the cooler you are. I've yet to drink more than one sip of a beer without pouring it down the drain.

I don't know. I have never bought a beer I didn't want to finish. I dumped a homebrew that was badly infected without taking a single sip if that counts.

What about one you picked up as an extra in a trade?

Asking me personally? I've never traded before.

When beer offends you in some way, however slight or superficial that way may be, pour it out.

You've got to show beer who's boss or it may start taking advantage of your interest.

I've had one infected beer: Finchs secret stache stout. I think it was very low abv to be barrel aged as well and had read about people getting bad bottles. I poured it and almost the entire pour was foam that was very slow to settle. Took one or two sips and it was bad sour

I've only drain poured a handful of beers in the past 8 years or so, but I generally give a beer 3 sips. Only 1 I've poured after the first sip.

I've never drain poured. Just got to fight through it. That's alcohol abuse!

I've only ever drain-poured 1 beer (some weyerbacher bourbon-aged beer) that I can remember. Generally, I fight through the pain. My reasoning: I've already paid for it, so I'd like to at least get a buzz for my money.

If you make an involuntary grimace, it may be time to drianpour.

You're not asking about infected beer, only that which you consider 'sub-par', and you're asking at what point the community will support you in being wasteful with both your money and some well-meaning brewer's beer.
Reminds me of an old acquaintance who would order the most expensive steak on the menu, eat 3 pieces out of the very center of it and a few matching bites of the softest, creamiest part of the baked potato, then signal for the waiter to come and remove it because it was in the way.

If you open a beer and there's nothing inherently wrong with it, finish it. Some beers improve with time in the glass. Don't be in such a hurry and don't be so wasteful.

For something I bought myself: I don't know since I've never drain poured something I paid for.
If I've received it as a gift: one.

4.42 swills, then I draw the line.
