I did not even know Lagunitas even had a brewery in Chicago. I was posting on an earlier question on why Lagunitas was not mentioned in the show.

I know they posted some Instagram pics at Alaskan Brewing during filming, so that's one of the episodes.

When this second season for the show was announced, it said the first show would be from New Orleans. Something must have happened to change that.

That probably says it right there. Maybe they didn't even reach the point of filming an episode.

I'm with you about the IPA comment. I mean, I've only been drinking it for about 5 years, but still long before the buyout and I haven't noticed any issues. It has always been a mild IPA to me, and if it were someone on these forums saying the same thing, I'd say "You're just used to bigger IPA's now" without a second thought.

Here in AB-country, Honker's and IPA can now be found at pretty much any bar since the buyout which I am thankful for. I don't think of them as much of a craft/small brewery either, but I will always grab BCBS if possible. Many of the whiskeys and other spirits I drink are owned by the giant Diageo, so... :stuck_out_tongue: Cheers

Maybe I'm incorrect, but I believe Goose Island's main beers have stayed the same, but simply brewed at a larger scale. Their IPA wasn't shocking the world in the past. And it still isn't. What's the big deal?

It's just silly to ignore their Bourbon County series and sour program. Bourbon County was a game changer in creating what is arguably one of the most popular and demanded styles in craft. Goose Island has 5 beers in the Top 50 beers.

BrewDog in the Top 50? None.
    Top 250? None.

Non US brewers in the top 50/250 - not too many.

Is it a surprise that a Scottish brewer that's only been around for 7 years isn't in the top 250 on a website dominated by US reviewers?

    No - not really !

I'm sure it was just for show, but the 3 guys who dye the river looked pissed off.

I don't know why it has to be restricted to non-American breweries. Hill Farmstead has "only" been around for 4 years and dominates with a whopping 20 brews on the list.

When I started watching it I immediately had the thought that In-Bev corporate had just way too much red-tape to approve anything like this and that GI was not going to be mentioned.

Loved the "Hangover" parody in the elevator.

It's good that you consider it part of the Chicagoland area because it is offically part of the Chicagoland area.

The Chicago MSA is further subdivided by state boundaries into the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet, IL Metropolitan Division, corresponding roughly to the CMAP region; the Gary, IN Metropolitan Division consisting of the Indiana counties of Lake and Porter, as well as two surrounding counties; and the Lake County-Kenosha County, IL-WI Metropolitan Division.

The concept of this show deals with brewing innovations (green beer or most caloric beer) and is not about generating a 'Best of ...." listing of breweries. These two Scots use the venue as a criteria for their beer; then, they reach out to craft beer newbies to judge reactions.

I finally caught the episode and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not really surprised that they didn't mention Goose Island, given that it's such a controversial topic (is it craft? isn't it? is it even a Chicago brewery anymore considering the ownership and how much is brewed elsewhere?) Yes BCBS is my favorite beer, but I'm happier that they gave barrel-aging its due (describing the benefits of barrel-aging fermentation of their beer, enjoying Rev's Deth's Tar) rather than getting hung up that they didn't mention one specific beer (albeit the ideal example.)

I've seen several episodes of this show now and have a newfound respect for these guys. While they may not be the most accomplished brewers from an awards perspective, they seem like great ambassadors for the craft beer movement. They geek out on yeast strains and hop varieties while also giving your average joe a basic education of styles, off-flavors, and local breweries -- and are pretty hilarious to boot. I think that's the only way the show works -- it has to have something for everyone. Revolution proves yet again they have the most photogenic tap room in Chicago (speaking as someone who has yet to visit Lagunitas) and I get the impression that they are more receptive to taking chances like getting involved with this show & the Drinking Buddies movie. And of course FFF qualifies as a Chicago brewery. It's less than 10 miles from the city limits and I'm sure their most lucrative accounts are largely in the city.

I wish I could have tried the beer -- it did get a mixed but mostly positive reception. I'd much rather try something experimental and unique that looks and tastes a bit weird, than something artificial & mainstream that I've had 100 times before.

Watched the episode, and as someone who visited Chicago for their beer scene recently I think they did a good job mentioning the noteworthy breweries and bars.

They should have mentioned Goose Island even if they never put them in any "list" or spotlighted their beer. Regardless of their AB acquisition Goose Island was a pioneer of barrel aged stouts and set the bar for those beers. I'm fine with FFF being included as Chicago but GI should not have been ignored.

I can't wait for them to do Vermont, I'm curious a) who they'll partner with (would Shaun consider being on TV? Would Alchemist be too much of a DIPA pissing contest?) and b) if they treat the state like they do most cities, I'd like to see what they have to say about it; I've never been, so it'd be nice to live vicariously WITH video instead of just retellings.

NYC will have to be on the list eventually; Brooklyn, @Sixpoint, and now Evil Twin are crafting up the place, and I can see them having some fun if they partnered with Evil Twin... unless the level of insanity gets too high and someone's head explodes.

    This is perfect.

The phonetic spelling of their accent that is, I don't mean the implication that there's nothing to film in NO. I can imagine where you're coming from but I've never had Nola Brewing so no comment, but Abita seems to go after the "just stopped drinking BMC" crowd more than anything. That said, I could still see them doing a show there; maybe a play on "oyster stout" where they use crayfish?
