I freaking love Stone Enjoy By, I forgot how great it is and was reminded last night when I cracked my last bottle. I've been told that Stone Go To IPA is pretty close to Enjoy By, can anyone confirm this? Or does anyone have another option? I'll hang up and listen...

Alpine Pure Hoppiness (slightly less body/hops/abv) and Exponential Hoppiness (slightly more body/hops/abv) are the closest I can recall having.

FW Double Jack, RR PtE, and fresh FFF APW & Dreadnaught are all very clean versions of IIPA's.

It is not close at all. A very good "session IPA", but comparing it to Enjoy By is idiotic imo. Wish I could give you some comparable beers to Enjoy By, but none jump to mind at the moment.

If you're saying those last three are similar to Enjoy By, I'd disagree strongly for Dreadnought (had one very recently too, fresh). However, I can definitely see where the PtE comparison comes in, and would have to revisit DJ. Haven't had PH, but agree with EH, although I think EH is so much better that it's hard to compare. That last part is jut my opinion though, I'm sure many would disagree and I definitely think those two beers are similar.

It's been too long since we've gotten fresh Dreadnaught in Wisco. I can't quite remember the clarity on it, but I seem to remember it being a crisp IIPA. Maybe it's a bit more astringent than Enjoy By.

Yeah, EH is better beer for sure. Pretty much all Alpine beers are better than Enjoy By, IMO- in fact, I've always argued that Enjoy By was created because San Diegans had pretty much stopped buying Stone's hoppier beers because they couldn't get enough Alpine, Russian River, Societe, and Ballast Point hoppy beers. They also desperately wanted a beer with Nation-wide demand (like Pliny, Alpine, Heady Topper, Zombie Dust, etc).

Once they figured out they had a cash cow on their hands, Stone decided to set it free to roam the countryside.

Definitely Firestone Walker Double Jack....it's so good! Sculpin IPA is also good, but it's not a double IPA

Double jack has way more flavor than enjoy by. Enjoy by of late has become dank and very herbal and I have not bought it lately.

I stand by my theory that Enjoy By tastes very, very similar every batch, but that it's flavor develops (changes/breaks down/whatever) on an almost daily basis. Next time, note the bottled date and figure out how many days old it is. Do a tasting and take meticulous notes. Don't buy any more that batch (I know, it's hard to do). When the next batch rolls around, try it again at the same exact age. It will taste almost exactly the same. I enjoy it best at 2-3 weeks old. It's still bright and floral, with just a touch of dankness.

To me Dreadnought is very midwestern, with more similarities to a east coast IPA, rather than a west coast one. Reminded me of Pipeworks IIPAs, very clean and perfect malt balance, but with more hops than most midwest IPAs, which brings up the east coast comparison. While Triple Sunshine is on a whole different level, that's one I had a week or two before and Dreadnought reminded me of that beer, just with less hops. So to classify Dreadnought for me: very midwestern, but more hops than usual, but not enough for me to consider it something typical of the great east coast IPAs.

West coast IPAs are of course much more bitter with more focus on the hops and less on the malt and the balance. To be clear, I really like IPAs from all three regions, while I do lean more towards midwest and east coast IPAs.

I love Heady, but I tend to divide my IIPA's into two camps: Pliny-style and Heady-style. Enjoy By is definitely more of a Pliny-style. Filtered, bright, hops fall off within a month, classic West-Coast-Style IIPA.

Heady is a big old unfiltered magic mess of sediment, chewy hops, and way way more citrus than floral, at least on my palate.

Agreed. I've only had Pliny once, and it wasn't the freshest, so I wasn't all that blown away. I had Heady in my fridge right now and the taste is very different, Pliny(or to me, Enjoy By) style and Heady style are a good way to put it, but that ignores the midwest(2 hearted or hopslam style?).

You're right. The Midwestern style... if Bell's brewed a Double Two Hearted, that would probably be it. Scream IIPA from New Glarus is a great Midwestern IIPA, and could probably be the flagship example of the style if it wasn't so new.
Abrasive, Dreadnaught, APW, goddamn PF (although that's way more along the lines of HT than anything else)

The awesome thing is that everyone has a different set of knowledge based on what they drink most often. You can learn a lot on BA.

Fresh dirtwolf has a similar darkness to it. I still buy enjoy by here or there but there so many world class dipas that I don't seek it out a ton for it's price. As far as stone dipas go, I actually prefer ruinten to enjoy by (but I like to have a good malt backbone to play against the hops). Another vote for double jack but it's more similar to ruinten than enjoy by is.
