I thought it would be interesting to hear from people across the country their favorite areas for beer shopping and least favorite based on beer availability and choice.

    My two cents...

Best: Chicagoland area... great variety of most craft heavy hitters and access to new local breweries...only knock is lack of New Glarus access... Not too bad if you live close to the Wis. border.

Worst: Cody, Wy.: I believe my choice was between Coors or Coors Lite.

    Your thoughts?

    Best: San Diego area, CA.
Worst: Carnival Cruise Lines. All In-Bev until you reach a port-o-call.

New hampshire is pretty lousy compared to mass. We're getting better but it's still not close. Luckily we have more than a few good local options to help ease the pain.

Kansas is weak. Thankfully we get a lot of Colorado brews, but virtually nothing east of Missouri.

Baltimore, Maryland has a pretty good craft beer scene. Western, MD though is pretty much a choice of coors, miller, bud, or yuengling haha

In the Pacific Northwest it can be very good, depending highly upon where you are within the PNW. For example:
    Seattle, Portland: Great!
    Spokane: Good!
Hermiston, Oregon: "We got both kinds of beer! Bud and Bud Lite!"

Was loving the choices in Boulder/Denver while I lived there.

Now I live in Montgomery County, MD and I have to go to PG County, DC or Virginia. Could be worse though...

Best: when living in CT selection was solid, but Mass is much better.

Worst: Now living in OKC and...selection is pretty thin, but its good enough with some good local options and decent outside selection (founders, sierra nevada, great divide)

Best: San Diego. About 50 local breweries bottling, plus all the regional stuff that gets distributed.
Ok: Milwaukee. Still waiting for some of the Chicagoland breweries to move some stuff up North (Half Acre, Revolution, Pipeworks).

Seekabrew is insanely inaccurate. It really would be a million dollar idea to run a website that updates every other day, or weekly with distro news and notes by state, or even better, by region.

I've found that parts of the Jersey Shore are still pretty bad but it's improving. The good news is that many places now are good. Pittsburgh and Philly, with all the crazy alcohol laws in Pennsylvania, are two of the best cities out there. Maybe because they have to try harder to get good beer.

You get Tallgrass which is only in the midwest IIRC.

I've heard West Virginia was pretty bad. Maybe Utah because of the laws.

Yeah, and Free State. I actually love both of those breweries. In all honesty Kansas isn't too bad if you go to the right bottle shop but we don't get any of the great upper Midwest beers from Michigan, Ohio, etc.

Living in Alabama and also buying in GA, SC, and NC, Alabama is not that bad. It is no NC, but we have tons of good stuff available now including lots of good local stuff. Not to say we can compare to some of the bigger states, but from what it was to what it is, we've come a long way and continue to get better.

Umm Utah? Not only limited distribution but all taps are 4% or less. And you can't buy kegs. In addition the state owned liquor stores are terrible. Beers sit on shelves. All beers in grocery stores are 4% (although many of them are good sessionable beers). On the side note it's nice to have access to Uinta and am looking forward to release of Big Bad Baptist this October. I sure do miss Wisonsin.

Hands down best distribution for the east coast.

Of the states I've been through, West Virginia is by far the most pitiful.
