I've just obtained, and am currently enjoying, my first Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout. This could be one of the best BB Stouts I have ever had. Wish I could have purchased more than one. At this point, I actually prefer this beer over BCBS, KBS and the like..and I LOVE KBS. Surprised that I have not heard much about this beer before (well, not too surprising since we don't get CW in Long island).

Question is: How available is this beer in the Chicago area, and could I expect to potentially obtain a bottle (or four)? I see the beer is only released in the Fall, but was wondering if it sits around for a suspended amount of time. I will be out in Chicago for a Bachelor's party in two weeks and will be doing plenty of beer searching. I would love to score another one of these!

They had it at Superstar Beer City in North Babylon and the Superstar in Amityville, too, a while back. I got a 4-packs of it and one in NYC too. I agree wholeheartedly with you...it's a great stout, one of the best, period.

Slim pickins, but might be findable.

There were 2 batches of this. One was mentioned a lot as being infected. I think the "bad" one was brewed on the 333 day of the year. Check the date codes on the necks.

I still saw it on shelves through early June-ish but nothing at all since.

Correction, the potentially infected batch was bottled on New Years Eve - 36513
    35113 is the good batch.

Thanks for the update. I am seriously loving this beer right now. Not as chewy as most BB stouts but full of intense flavors. Almost too drinkable.

My bottle is from 35113. Glad I didn't get the infected batch! If anyone is in/around downtown Chicago and has an extra bottle or two, I would love to do an IP trade.

The stout should be fine, it's Peruvian Morning that's been infected the last 4 times they've made it. The BB Barleywine's a killer, definitely buy it if it's around. I hear good things about the Scotch Ale as well, but I haven't had it.

This is a major whine about the BB Stout - that it's too "thin". Screw that. I buy at least a case (sometimes two) every year. We call it our "barrel-aged session stout". It doesn't leave you stuffed & finished after one twelve ounce bottle.

Yes, it was the Peruvian Morning that had issues. Unfortunately, when that beer was "on", it was a deliscous coffee stout. The Barley Wine is the bomb!!!!! And the BA Scotch and stout are good as well.

@BoardwalkBock - I've got vintage BA CW stouts if you don't get any that I can send ya ( free) to do a vertical...plus the Scotch and Barley Wine.....hit me up if you don't find any.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Disregard this post...CW BBS definitely had issues with one batch, the numbers above sound correct. CW PM has had definite infection the last 2 years and some questionable infection for the 2012 batch although it seemed like most of it was bad. I suppose those that had good bottles were less likely to say something though, I had close to 2 cases of good bottles.

In order to answer the op....Im pretty sure this can be found on a few shelves in WI, put up an FT: ISO:.

Oh that's interesting. I've never had an issue, nor have I heard of any. Thanks for the correction.
    It's a shame they can't figure out PM, it's a fantastic beer.

For sure. It wasn't horrible, but you could/can definitely taste something is off....pretty hit or miss from what I hear, but it's an issue.

What'll kill them is if they put out an anniversary beer that gets infected.

I think Anello and Paul learned a lot from the PM fiasco...doubt QC will be much of an issue going forward.

I'm looking forward to a gradually improving release party. There were still a few folks who ended up not getting their allotment when all was said and done last year.

Again, brownpapertickets would eliminate a)lines to buy beer, b)the necessity for everyone to show up on one day (spread it out over Saturday & Sunday, the ticket denoting the pick-up day) and c) allow folks a window (2-4 weeks?) for picking up their beer.

Also, and I hope CW is reading this, because BPT will provide them with a nice list, both electronically and printed, of who is coming to get beer when! Even breaking it up into 2 days would take a huge burden off of the staff and make the event more enjoyable for everyone.

Geez, I really hope you don't think I'm busting your balls but where are you getting your info from? I never left my house and I got 16 bottles...as easy as that was, I would hope they would get rid of proxies. Sounds like that was a major hold up last year.

The original intent of CW and their anny party was to celebrate another year of being in the biz. Personally, I wish they would just get rid of the bottling of the beer (or at least the release of it at the party) and just serve it on tap. These anniversary parties should be just that....parties.

CW did use BPT this year. Anyone who didn't get an allotment this year was either passed out drunk during the party or frozen outside the tent a la Jack Torrance (or maybe both) I thought the party was great. Yeah the bottle line sucked but DL lines suck, etc. I'm sure CW will tweak it some next year and improve it to make it even better. I had no complaints.

I had a few friends who weren't sold their full allotment- not completely sure of the reason, I do know that they waited until late in the day to finally ask about buying their beer- they drank first, then bought at the very end. So that might have something to do with it.

I think brownpapertickets for the bottles would allow them to celebrate without people having to hustle to get their beer, not to mention the frigid conditions that are likely to occur every January.

But they did use bpt this year, so you just mean to prebuy the bottles? That seems slightly annoying since you'd have to choose 1-8 bottles when you bought the ticket. The only real benefit is them not having to handle money day-of.

I have no idea why anyone wouldn't have been sold their full allotment (unless they didn't want it). After everyone with tickets got bottles it was open for whoever wanted to buy more bottles...I was tempted to buy more but somehow exercised some restraint. I wish I had waited until the end to buy any of them and avoided that cold, cold line.
