I can't believe people still even use the phrase "[insert dollar amount here] for a "beer""

…I think it's rather evident that a 'beer' is no longer a 'beer'.

For real, $30 seems to be the going rate for quality barrel aged releases anymore. AleSmith most recently comes to mind. BA Speedway, Numbskull, Wee Heavy were all $28+service fee per bottle. $30 out the door

Just walk into the local college hole in the wall bar and ask for a "shot and a beer"…my guess is they don't hand you a fine cognac and a barrel aged stout.

They are a fun treat once in awhile, been impressed with most of them, a little hard to come by out this way in my area but do really enjoy the one's I've had.

...and my 37 dollar ham sandwich tastes better because it's no longer a sandwich

It does if it's made with Jamon Iberico de Bellota....

I walk around to window shop a bunch of places in the Center City area in Philly and haven't seen the Java since a few weeks after it hit the shelves. That was the only one that really sold well in the area. I know of atleast two shops that have all the other commercially available variants between them. Both shops are between 31.00 and 32.00 per bottle.
The purple-ly wax was the Java variant if I remember right.

There is a completely random liquor store on the north side of Chicago that has these bottled priced at $25.99 - I'm always tempted, because it's such a "bargain." Still haven't pulled the trigger yet, and don't know what varieties they have (though it seemed they did have 3-4).

If you take the plunge, the EC version and the Java were probably the best of the two, and each variant tastes remarkably different from barrel to barrel. The EC was much more balanced than the Makers Mark version and not as sweet as one of the other ones. Java was probably the best and most likely would still have a decent amount of coffee flavor and roast components going on.

This will give you an idea of which colored wax is for which. Java was lavender pearlescent.

Aye, corrected my second post. It was lavender pearlescent. Would of been great if they went all Gray Monday on us and made the wax smell like coffee, but what can you do

Coffee Eclipse was brewery only - about 120 bottles made…

JAVA coffee on the other hand was bottled.

Ah, makes sense now. I was lucky enough to get a bottle of Coffee...but dumb enough not to drink it right away. I'd recommend drinking Java ASAP before the coffee flavors fade.

BA Speedway was retailing in Wisco for $40, sold out in about a week.

CW Anniversary bottles are still only $15, wonder if they'll raise the price next year.

Must we go trough this "is it worth it?" every so often?? It's "worth it" if someone wants to pay for it. Complaining about a beer's price seems awfully wasteful, no?

Java Coffee is the only one i've tried and it was awesome. Not sure how well the coffee flavour would age though.

I was able to try the 2012 Elijah Craig (12yr) and the 2012 High West last year at a bottle share. Both beers were outstanding, especially the EC version. If FiftyFifty was available in NC I would CERTAINLY grab some.

I just had the 2012 EC this past weekend. A really good beer but nothing that wowed me either. I've had many other BA beers that were better.
