Background: I'm running a Fantasy Football league where each participant has to ante 1 "limited" beer (brewery-only release, once per year release, etc.). Two of the guys have ante'd JK beers -- AR and Funk Metal. Would you consider both of these bottles to be "limited?" Thanks and cheers!
My opinion: AR is a Limited Edition (i.e. only so many released at once at a specific time, a specific number released, usually not more than once or twice a year). Funk Metal is a Limited Release (i.e. made in multiple batches when brewers have time/materials.) At this point, I could consider both of them to be brewery only, as I have not seen Funk Metal on the shelves since they started selling at the brewery, although others may have somewhere else.)
AR = yes, strictly brewery only release Funk Metal, in it's last 2 batches, have been brewery only and may stay that way in the future (who really knows tho). I would easily consider both "limited" if you are outside of Texas
If you require it to be a once per year release, then Atrial is out. Funk may be a once per year brew these days though. Atrial is infinitely better than Funk IMO.
It really depends on how you're defining "limited." Atrial is definitely brewery-only, and limited to 2 per person no matter how big the batch, so I'd definitely say it's limited. Funk is just an "occasional" Jester King release, typically sold at the brewery first, but if it lingered too long it would likely find it's way onto some shelves. Also I don't know if it's had a bottle limit during its recent release, but if so it was probably a limit 6 per. So in my own mind, I don't think of that as "limited" in the same way Atrial is. Just one interpretation, though.
I get what yall are saying but hasn't Atrial been released twice in the time that funk has been released once? Could be wrong on that... I would count both. I would imagine there's more atrial out in the community right now than Funk...
At this point, couldn't you count all of JK's beers as limited? Pretty much all of them are only available for 3-4 week windows at the brewery.
That's what I would consider all of JK's beers right now. If a handful of shops get some bottles for on-premise consumption, I wouldn't count that as regular distribution.
If it was me, I'd drink the OE 800 first then the OG BM. I always eat my peas first then the meat and potatoes.
I know the latest batch of funk metal was distro'd in Austin in very very limited quantities and the distributor asked the bars that received it to have it consumed on premise only. AR seems to release every quarter. But yes both are limited. I'd count it.
