I had 2 Cherry Cakes this evening and it was worth every penny. I might have to go back tomorrow!

Other than what the barrels are, because they show them to you on tours, nobody knows anything concrete. When they do, the beer-related internet sites will have a mini-explosion. Those who got them will lord them over those who didn't, but probably deep down know how lucky they are. And apparently obscene offers will be made by those who wish to acquire them. I believe that sums up the previous 20 pages for you, and all the other internet discussion about it.

 

So has anybody noticed if the barrels are still there or if they are gone now?

Locals report back

 

Been really surprised by the Mexican Cake hype machine. I have yet to meet anyone that really likes the beer much less loves it as much as the internet does.

Is it just that there is finally southern trade bait and that has gotten the locals fired up?

had several bottles last year and have had pours of this year just to confirm my thoughts. My buddy also didnt like it when he had a pour and random guy at the bar mentioned how much he didnt like it when I ordered my glass of it.

Obviously it is either a like it or hate it type of beer with the spice, but massive internet hype compared to IRL opinions arent really matching up.

 

Not sure I've met anyone who likes stouts that didn't think MC was a great beer. I've actually known a ton of people that don't like stouts that did like MC.

Either you're too far gone down the whalzbra route, or you're being a contrarian. I suppose it is possible that you simply don't like that beer for some reason, but to act as if the majority of people don't like MC strains credulity.

Your experiences have been completely opposite of mine. Everyone I know thoroughly enjoys, if not loves, MC. That includes people across the country who I've traded MC with. I haven't been lucky enough to try BAMC yet, but those I know who have had the opportunity, say it absolutely lives up to the hype and those are people who's opinions I trust.

I'm not trying to change your opinion though. By all means, stay at home and tell all those you know to do the same. Less competition for me at the brewery! LOL!

Seems like that would be a fairly elaborate plot by the locals to increase the value of the trade bait.

^^^ I agree with the above. Mexican Cake absolutely lived up to the hype for me, both drinking it fresh at Westbrook on release day and the bottle I brought back to Colorado to share with my buddies here. It is an insanely tasty beer that I will now actively seek out every year henceforth.

 

MC is hands down the best stout I've had...or at least the one I enjoyed most....I'm not a local (unfortunately)

No growler fills. Just 8 oz pours. And I highly doubt that'll appear anywhere else outside Westbrook.
