    Just picked up a few bottles of 2014 RUIN TEN any thoughts on laying it down.

    Just ask yourself what you love about ruinten. If your answer is the depth of flavor in the malt profile, then sure, it's worth a shot. But I doubt that's your answer :wink:

    IPAs and Double IPAs are styles that are better fresh.

    Before you decide to lay anything down, ask yourself a few questions. Why are you aging this beer? What do you hope to gain from age? Do you anticipate improvement with age?

    Personally, I cannot find any answers to those questions that would lead me to do anything other that drink this beer as soon as possible.

    A friend of mine is the guy who thinks a high ABV warrants laying it down. I personally like to lay down imperial stouts that have been barrel aged. The problem seems though I tend to crack them open and share them.
    That said I do have some Rodenbach Gran Cru that's been laying nicely.

    Rodenbach and stouts are in completely different worlds from an IPA of any kind. High ABV or not, IPAs fall apart over time, regardless of the base. Some fair better than others, but that's no reason to try it with a brutally hopped, aggressive DIPA. Maharaja does ok with a little time, but it's so well balanced it doesn't loose much. RuinTen would be awful in a year.

    @Liverocks,

    I had a 2013 ruin ten (found it at a store) not worth it.

    Little hops left, lots of , malt.

    Not worth it. Waste of a beer IMHO

    Don't age IPAs, it's as simple as that.

    I wouldn;t do it.
    The point of that beer is in the hops. Those will fade out in a few months.
    You will then be left with a malty beer, think maybe a much lighter barleywine.
    I have had a few DIPAs that are decent after aging (I didn't do it on purpose, I found it in a box about 9 months after I moved. I had labeled the boxes, but I guess this one got in the wrong box) but very few and far between.

    I'm having my 2nd one as I type and can't think of a reason why I'd lay this down. I was disappointed in the the moth I had to wait from the bottle date. Drink all you can...now!

    Ruinten is amazing after the 4th or 5th year in the bottle IMO.

    The name comes from the fact that it will Ruin after Ten years of aging. So you should be safe...
