Any time I know I have people coming over, I make sure I have "diversionary beers" in the fridge. Just a 12erof something thst I'll drink even if the guests don't. I strategically place them to make sure they're blocking the real beers. If the guests don't drink them, more for me! I feel your pain though, diversionary beers took me a while to come up with...

My beer fridge is in the garage so I'm in good shape there since it's pretty much off limits during parties. I just make sure I buy enough or people bring enough but I gotta drive 2 plus hours to get my good stuff save for SN or Odell IPA, or Stone, so I fiercely defend my stash excluding family and close friends since most of them like craft. It gives you an excuse to get some fresh stuff, and maybe you will have a convert or two, and they will turn you on!

I haven't had a BYOB party at my house since I was about college age. So, no, I really can't relate.

    P.S. Get new friends.

I have some old outdated ipa/dipa if you want for your next party. At least force the douches to not enjoy it at it's peak taste.

I only have a couple beers I'm actually saving (ie an '03 JW Lees a generous BA sent me as a wedding gift) and heads would roll if one of my drunk ass friends found their way to it and helped themselves. That said, I invoke the "checkout lane" rule when it comes to alcohol. If it's within arms reach from the "shopping cart", I should assume hands will be on it at some point in the night.

In the case where you have an easily accessible 2nd fridge full of some of your fav craft beer that's too much trouble to hide, you should have an emergency bottle of smirnoff/JD/bacardi ready to go in an even more accessible area just in case the BMC reserves are drying up.

On the flip side, this gives you total permission to eat up all the damn Oreos (or whatever they love) at their place next time.

I'll say an Ale Mary tonight before bed in memory of those who were ill consumed.

gotta hide the good beer when you throw a party if it's not fair game. a lot of non-craft beer people don't get that it could matter whether or not a bottle of beer disappears.

BYOB or not, when you invite guests over be prepared to share. If you don't want to share, hide it. Or be prepared to appear selfish.

I always make sure to bartend at my (usually wife's) parties... no one goes into my mini-fridge. Period. Probably because I am a certified asshole. Bummer that your hospitality was taken for granted.

That's why I always have an assortment of whiskey, tequila and vodka on hand. Give your buddies a few glasses of a nicely prepared well drink drink and they can't even find much less open my beer fridge.

I don't have the will-power to keep a stash; so, I guess that means I never have this problem.

I am only going by this quote but when someone has to announce they are selfless it's usually preceded by a non-selfless act.
