I'd say the smart move is to bring a bottle of wine. If you really want to bring her a beer, try Three Philosophers. It was a big hit among the female red wine non beer drinkers at a family tasting I did.

Too bad you aren't in the Austin, TX area - you could get some Jester King, ideally Biere De Merlot.

If she likes grapefruit, take along a bottle of Dogfish Head Sixty One. (If it gets into your state.) There's grapefruit, red wine (Syrah) and a bit of malty sweetness all playing nicely together.

    As above: Rodenbach, Duchesse
La Folie, Petrus Oud Bruin, or try a fruit lambic or Faro

Your best friend is generous enough to have you and your husband over as house guests, and you want to know if it's cool to show your gratitude by buying her something that she hates and you love?

In your other new thread, you'd consider not going to your friends' barbecues because if you went that would mean that you'd either have to struggle through cheap beer or waste fancy beer on your friends.

I think it would be wise to focus on your friends a little bit more and the beer a little bit less.

Not so much "focus on the beer less" but "focus on the advocating of beer a bit more than saving it for yourself"

First and foremost, take her a nice bottle of red wine. As for the beer, pick up a bottle of DFH Red & White. I think it's a great beer to introduce the red wine drinker to craft beer.

    Good luck with the plumbing!

Let me tell you from experience, wine lovers will hate any sour or funky beer, so the recommendations for Wild and Sour beers are from Beer lovers that like wine, not Wine lovers that don't like beer. Those flavors are considered a flaw in wine. This is a fact plain and simple. What they will like is roasty sweet barrel aged stouts or barleywines. Trust me, been there and done that. Go for the heaviest IRS you can find.

"an ill fated encounter with Shock Top"...hopefully not like those mountain climbing jerks in the commercial:rolling_eyes:...all joking aside it doesn't hurt to ask or perhaps bring a red wine & something you think she might like beer wise

if you are absolutely intent on drinking a beer with her, try Dogfish Head Red and White. its a Witbier aged in oak tanks with noir juice added.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
The reason I didn't pick her up a red was because I know nothing about wine and the reds she raves about give me a miserable migraine. To each his own. So I snagged her a framboise which she said was "Okay" and a massive pile of our favorite BBQ which we shared all weekend and I brought a couple of movies over. Next time I will have a plan in place for the red wine contingency I pinky-promise! We're past formalities at this point being at fridge and closet privilege level friendliness anyway.
As to skipping parties cause I don't want to share my beer it's more that I just don't much care for crowds.
Thank goodness my plumbing is fixed and thanks for the advice. She may never love beer and I may never love red wine but we will always love each other.
