So when i rate beers i often write reasonably detailed reviews. I don't assume that people will read them i just think it's fun to specifically analyze the beers i try, having said that, i'm curious if anybody actually reads reviews, as opposed to just looking at scores (if you do that)?

I definitely do. In fact, I scroll through until I see reviews.

I do, because it gives a lot more insight into whether I will like a beer when I'm trying make a decision.

Most of the time I don't check reviews. But when I want more info than just the overall rating, I'll sort it by "Top Raters" and read those. More often than not, @UCLABrewN84 is towards the top, and for whatever reason, I've grown accustomed to looking for his reviews.

EDIT: I need to start reviewing more often.

I will sometimes look at them, but I don't base decisions of them. On occasion I look at them if I have a bottle of beer that just doesn't taste the way i think it should. If I have something that taste real off I will check before rating or reviewing, I don't want to leave a bad review because the bottle I had was old or something. And every now abs then I want to see what others think odd beers that i enjoy.

I read reviews. They carry more weight than scores because I want to know what someone liked and didn't like about a beer.

I do on beers I'm interested in trying/buying or those I've reviewed myself...but I'm alternatively amused and jealous that I can't seem to find all of those smells and flavors that some of these reviewers go on and on about.

I actually check the reviews only box because I just assume if someone took the time to write a review it is likely pretty accurate, especially if multiple people have similar thoughts.

Sometimes when I can't identity a flavor the review is invaluable. I pretty much always read the first 2 or 3.

I would read the reviews more often if we were allowed to "like" a review, or have some system to rate quality reviews. This site needs some quality control when it comes to reviews.

I do as well. I usually read the review on a beer I am drinking after tasting, so as not to influence anything.

Anyone reading my reviews: I apologise in advance for not having the most technical review. I really don't have the refined palate for such things, so mine are more POV stories. Those that like them, thank you!

Exactly. I put absolutely no merit into simple ratings, but reviews can be useful.

Read reviews a good bit. Useful in making up a shopping list of things to look for when traveling. Also useful after writing a review to see what others have described that I might agree or disagree with and to decide which subset of regular reviewers have tastes similar to mine. The reviewers I trust then become helpful in selecting beers to add to my shopping list for things I haven't tried yet.

Sometimes, I'm in the mood to simply try something I've never had and be surprised.

But often, when I'm on tour and have rotating access to things I don't get back home, I like to know a little more about what I'm buying. If I can only buy a couple bottles, I'd rather get the ones that people rave about than the ones that people would give a 75 to. Or if I'm in the mood for a specific characteristic - maybe a grapefruit-forward IPA instead of a piney one - reviews can be helpful.

I read reviews both the Highest and the Lowest. I find it more entertaining to see what a person like in said beer, or didn't like in said beer. While I don't review as much, I still like the insight to each beer I purchase. I drink the beer, then I look up reviews on it. It's all in good fun.
