I'll be spending a week in Munich starting on Sunday, any suggestions on spots (breweries, bottle shops, bars etc..) to visit? I would try to research, but I trust this community a little more than Yahoo answers  Also open to non-beer related suggestions!

    Prost!

This has been asked quite a few times here along with a trip report here, and check out the links that @boddhitree referenced in this thread. Many people also recommend Ron Pattinson's book about which is linked here.

Enjoy your stay, hope you get some decent weather to take advantage of visiting a Biergarten or two.

I would add to the above that @Bierman9 mentioned a few places here that may be worth checking out if you are looking for more American or American-style beers in Munich.

I really liked Holy Burger, which was mentioned in my trip report that Einhorn linked to above. There appears to be two in the city, one with beer and one without. I went to the one with beer ("Holy Burger Downtown" on the website), a short(-ish) walk from both the Hbf and the Augustiner Keller. Try the Augustiner Kloster Mülln, not related to Munich's Augustiner beers as far as I can tell.

One full week is a long time in Munich. A day trip to Bamberg (2 to 2.5 hrs each way) might be a nice time.

Also I'd go here (it's walking distance from the major art museums) and buy some Hoppe Bräu Vogel Wuid. That stuff is delicious. Or I guess you could take a day trip to Waakirchen, if you're comfortable with your German.

My bier-related faves: Weisses Brauhaus, Forschungsbrau, and the Augustiner Braustubn... Day-trip-able are Weihenstephan and/or Andechs via S-Bahn... Bamberg, Nurnberg, Salzburg are easy day-trips via the rails of DB, too.... History get you? Try Dachau or Berchtesgaden/Oberslazberg for WWII stuff... as well as many WWII tours in Munich itself.... There's a bier/Oktoberfest Museum (and pub) and the Deutsches Museum is one of the best science/technical museums in die Welt... Message me for more tips or specifics if you like...

    Prosit!!

Only thing I'd add at this point (well, besides the obvious Augustiner Keller  ) is that if you are in the city center and thirsty, Der Pschorr on the Viktualienmarkt is now serving its Helles by Bayerischer Anstich (by gravity from the wooden barrel). That beer is incredibly refreshing and "simply perfect" (as Ron P. described Augustiner Helles). Easy to stop in for a couple of half liters while you're traversing the Fussgaengerzone. If you make it south, try and find some Hofbrau Traunstein Hefeweizen. And if you get as far as Salzburg, do not miss the Augustiner beer hall and garden there; one of the best drinking experiences in the entire world IMO.

One can also visit Hofbrauhaus Tegernsee by taking the BOB down to the to the town of Tegernsee on the lake of the same name in the Bavarian Alps. Make sure you get on the correct car set, as the train is split into 3 sets for different end destinations. Not a bad little trip.

I know the Hofbrauhaus is incredibly touristy, but if you've never been, it's worth doing once.

Plenty of locals in there, too. Plus that area of the city is one of the most preserved/reflects the character of old Munich more than most others. Def worth a visit IMO.

I've been to the Hofbrauhaus every time I've been in Munich and I doubt that'll ever change. As long as you know what you're getting - it's still a fun time. Grab some food up the street at in the Am Dom area and hit up the HBH for beers afterward.
I highly recommend buying this book off of Amazon: http://www.beerdrinkersguide.com/
It has easy directions to and from every major destination in the metro area, maps, some good general tips, and even coupons for free 1L beers in the back. It's good enough where I've bought spares just to get more coupons. With the Euro to dollar conversion not in our favor, the beer coupons can be worth more than the value of the book!

This. I've also seen it for sale at the book store in the Hauptbahnhof.

Hmm? Really? That's new from the older editions I have -- nice.

The coupons are great, although they aren't necessarily for the most mainstream spots. They're for some of the smaller biergartens around town like Waldwirtschaft and Menterschwaige. Still, if it weren't for those coupons I doubt I would have gone to those places. It's also really hard to argue with a free liter of beer.
He's probably due for a new version pretty soon. The S-Bahn has undergone some changes and some of the lines and stops are different. Plus, at least a few of the recommended places are no longer there. It's still 90% solid, but I do hope a 7th edition is in the works.

Herrburgess mentioned Hofbräuhaus Traunstein and their weiss beer. Good call. And specifically their "Gastro Weiss". It is perhaps the single best weiss beer I have ever had. To me it is worth the trip to Traunstein just to try it (perhaps 1.5 hrs by train). It is that good. I had it two separate times in the tasting room at their brewery after tours, but on one occasion it was not on offer at the brewery's restaurant in town. Strange. We were told it is a beer only for their restaurant accounts. So call before you search it out in Traunstein to find out where it is on offer. Also, their Dunkel/dark beer is great as well!

Traunstein has another brewery well worth some of your time...Wochinger. Nice tap and beer garden. Buffet available. Good beer as well.

A third brewery in town did not impress me as much, the Schnitzelbaumer brewery. Just average beers, in a bit too "modern" digs for my taste. Nice terrace, though.

What did you think of the Tap House? We haven't gotten a lot of feedback here outside of @boddhitree 's fine reporting.

Yes, YOU must report, or you will be places on the persona non grata list. Really, what did you think of the menu, beer and food? What did you drink and what was your opinion of them? What makes this German forum soooooo much better than the UK, Benelux forums is that people actually report on what they drink and where they go instead of just pumping us "specialist" for info (like a leach, eh?) and then slinking away without a peep.

Slinking away is a definite no-no.

And without pictures, it didn't happen.

:/ no photos, I enjoyed the menus and the bars themselves, classic German beer spots.
Really wasn't signing up to do restaurant reviews, just looking for a few suggestions.
    Sorry y'all maybe next time.
