    Holy cow:

This is one of my favorite ipa's, but this batch is a complete hop bomb.

I usually find it very balanced and fruity on the back end. IMO, a very balanced ipa. This batch was puckering bitterness on the back end.

I did drink it less than two weeks from bottling though.

    Any thoughts fellow ba's?

I'm sure I had that batch as I'm there multiple times a week, but it always tastes pretty much the same to me. It's one of the more bitter IPAs out there, and I don't get much balance any time I have Head Hunter... that's why I love it.

Yep, sounds like you've had your first uber-fresh Head Hunter. The beer I know is anything but balanced and fruity - it's a west coast inspired dank hop bomb and is best consumed AFAP (as fresh as possible).

This. Head Hunter is anything but balanced imo.

Lucky to have Head Hunter (and Two Hearted) on tap almost everywhere in Columbus; prefer both that way. Unfortunately the beer stores around here don't have extremely fresh cases - but I'm always checking bottle dates at Meijer/Kroger when I do some grocery shopping just to make sure. I really need to make a short drive up to Cleveland and get some fresh HH, Sunshine Daydream, and Trail Head. Fresh Columbus IPA and Bodhi will hold me over until then!

    just an update:

i am drinking another one bottled 6/17 and it seems to be back to its well balanced fruit self.

i dont know if is just my palate, but it seems the first month a hop bomb, then it becomes nicely balanced

I'm heading back down to North Carolina tomorrow, think I can find a fresh six pack of HH somewhere in Columbus? Also, what's a better option, take 71 down and hit Palmer's and Weiland's or take 270 and get off at Brice St. to hit Anderson's? Also, what could I look out for that has been released recently?

You can find it pretty much anywhere in Columbus. I would do Palmer's and Weiland's, personally.

Also, HH only comes in 4 packs, just a heads up.

Also, I had that batch of HH and got it when it was bottled just a few days old. Amazing batch. I think I would be disappointed if my HH was "balanced".

Yeah, it's damn good after 3 weeks, but just fucking AMAZING when you pick this up 2 days after the bottling date :grinning: Happy 4th of July to me.

Didn't want to start a new thread. I'm passing through Columbus soon. Where is the best place to pick up a fresh case in town? Thanks!

So I went to Weiland's and Palmer's yesterday morning and Weiland's blew Palmer's out of the water! There is a week old batch of HH at Weiland's- Palmer's didn't even have it. Palmer's seemed to have emptied out everything and forgot to restock. Anyway, I grabbed a few four packs of HH, some Jackie O's, Total Eclipse, and a few other odd balls. Saw a Maharajah shelf turd at Weiland's too.

Thanks for everyone who pointed me in the right direction!

^ Weilands is usually a safe bet. I also saw the 7/9/14 Head Hunter batch at Trader Joes (Easton) and Meijer (Polaris) a couple days ago. I have a renewed love affair with this stuff.
