While not the same as a RS, BrewDog opened up their Equity for Punks program to the public allowing people to buy ACTUAL INVESTMENT SHARES in their company. With that investment, members get first access to beers that normally aren't available outside of the brewery. It's a similar concept and seems to be working like magic for those wacky Scots!

He said it's a yam version of a pumpkin beer -- which it is. It's everything you would typically put in a pumpkin beer, except they used yams intead of pumpkins.

the side argument about "pumpkin beer", "yam version of a pumpkin beer" etc is hilarious in this thread

Saison De Lente was my favorite of theirs I have tried so far. One of the best saisons I've had. Recently just tried the Black Orchard but it didn't really do it for me.

So by that logic, all beers should are x versions of pale ales or pale lagers, it's everything you would typically put in a pale ale or lager, but instead of just hops, water and barley, x ingredient has been added and there is no other type of beer out there except for a pale ale or a pale lager.

Do people come on here just to bitch about non-nonsensical shit? In the end, who gives a fuck what he called it, as everybody knew what he meant.

    Yeah, you're just being obtuse.

The guy's original point is that he doesn't like pumpkin beers, so he's stayed away from Autumn Maple because of it's simlarities. It's a completely fair point he made. You guys are just being obnoxious by quibbling over the differences. He understands the differences -- what he's emphasizing are the similarities.

That's why the comparison to wineries was appropriate.

I think the earlier point about how the Bruery brought a bunch of trends under one roof is pretty spot-on. If someone bought everything the Bruery made, and only that, they would still have good-to-excellent representatives of every major craft brewing trend of the last five years, other than huge IPAs. It's always educational to get their stuff, especially if you're new to craft, and the ride is always fun. You could stop with all other breweries and still know what's going on. I don't buy many of their shelf beers, but I respect the hell out of what they do.

I don't think they've done a BA barleywine. Could be wrong.

Technically no, but they do have the anniversary series which is relatively close in style.

This is obtuse (i.e. taking another's statement and following its logic to reveal absurd results often just reveals the inherent flaw in the first place):

Budweiser is a bourbon barrel beer just like Black Tuesday, just without the bourbon barrel. Yeast, water, hops, malt, wood . . . all there. Its just missing the bourbon. So I stay away from Budweiser because I don't like bourbon.

I totally agree, and thought it was part of the whole "Cigar City" thing. A lot of their beers have a smokey, almost cigar-like quality to them. It works really well in the Humidor Series Jai Alai aged on Cedar. I don't mind it, and think it sets them apart.

The anniversary beers are barrel-aged old ales, which isn't too far off the map...

I've got to try that eventually. I've got a bottle of whatever-the-second-release-was-called that's been sitting in my cellar forever. I check the reviews periodically, and they keep saying it's still hot -- so I keep letting it sit.

    Where's the "Dislike" button?

We really need a "Dislike" button.
