I think it was Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout

I started with PBR and the like.
    Then Anchor Steam (more flavor)
Then Pete's Wicked (even more flavor)
Sam Adams Lager and Stock Ale were really good
So was SN Pale Ale and Dock Street Amber

But then along came Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout
One taste, Wow! Blew me away. It changed my beer world!

    Yours?

I think Hoegaarden Grand Cru, alongside a pot of mussels and pommes frites at Hopleaf in Chicago was probably the one.

Ballantine India Pale Ale...at that time (early 1980's) it was the bitterest and one of the strongest I had up 'til then. Really opened my eyes to what (good) beer really was and could be.

I don't remember exactly what the first one was, but I think it was either Alpha King from FFF or Thumbprint IIPA by New Glarus.

Had plenty of good beer in the UK that I loved before this, but the first beer that turned me onto the American "craft" scene, and made me say "holy fuck this is beer?" was Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout.

SNPA, Franziskaner, and Stone IRS were big ones for me early on. Probably others I have since forgotten.

Franziskaner and Paulner were amazing to me when I first got in to beer. The first one to knock my socks off that was a little more 'manly' was 90min and made me in to a huge DFH fan.

Probably Red Hook ESB back in the mid 90's. I didn't mind a few other beers (like the Pete's items) but I really, really liked that one.

Pliny the Elder. I paid way too much for four bottles of it online, but damn it was definitely worthy of the hype.

Stone Ruination 10th Anniversary IPA (since renamed RuinTen). Had it on-tap the first year it was released. That was the first time I nearly went limp from a first sip.
