I think because of my new obsession with craft beers and this forum I am becoming a bit of a beer snob. I went on vacation last week with a bunch of craft brews along with a healthy amount of macro brews, and found that I could only really drink the macro brews when I was good and drunk haha.

Well you live and learn. Now you know not to bother bringing the macros. So you will evolve so that your vacations will revolve around visiting breweries.
    Embrace your snobbery.

I don't consider myself a snob because I don't care what people are drinking, so long as I have good beer. Snobbishness is a way of treating other people. Life is too short to judge, but not long enough to drink all the beer.

I definitely have developed the forwardness to ask "don't you have anything else?" when I am out at a restaurant and I would have to say pinkies up!

Ya, I don't give people a hard time either; I am just a beer snob. I haven't really ruffled any feathers at parties, I let people try what I have; and for the most part they leave me alone with my beer. Though I am happy to share

I used to think some people were beer snobs, then I realized they just figured beer out before I did.

This is me, all my vacations are starting to revolve around breweries. Going to Cali to visit a friend this fall, we're going to breweries...going to France to ski next winter, driving to Germany/Belgium to visit breweries...every Vermont ski trip I take this winter, going to breweries...

I don't think I'm quite a snob yet though, I can still appreciate a macro for what it is, a cheap buzz, or hydration after exercise. A light macro lager goes down surprisingly easy during or after a hockey game.

I still feel there is a time and place for every beer, it's just 99% of the time I won't touch anything macro, let alone buy one myself.

You know you're a beer snob when....

Someone belly's up to the bar and orders a Budwiser on tap, and all you can do is shake your head, and look at the 14 other craft beer taps.

Not liking BMC doesn't make you a beer snob. Shoving it down your BMC drinking friends throats that you are superior for drinking craft makes you a beer snob.

That is like saying you are a food snob because you no longer like microwaved tv dinners.

You're not there yet, because you still drank the macro brews.

Nothing wrong with that as long as you don't (1) go ridiculously overboard chasing whales, (2) spend beyond your means on certain beers only because of hype, or (3) look down on others for liking something different.

Some people have alluded to this already, but there's a line between being a beer geek (or nut, advocate, or whatever word you choose) and being a beer snob. Drinking what you like and not drinking what you don't like doesn't make you a snob, your attitude does. Don't cross the snob line.

Is "beer snob" even a thing. Is it really possible to get to snob status on a beverage enjoyed by all folks in every level of society. Was my dad a snob for only drinking miller lite and turning up his nose a bud? No, people just like what they like. I am of the opinion that craft beer drinkers are open minded and not any more judgmental than a guy who only drinks pabst.

The word "snob" gets horribly misused within the beer community. No one likes a snob. They're literally the assholes of beer.

So being a "beer snob" is nothing to celebrate (unless you want to celebrate being an asshole), however, there's nothing wrong with being a discerning "beer geek." Like what you like, and let others like whatever the hell the want.

(PS - I prefer "BeerAdvocate," but I'm biased.)
