When I was on shift rotation as my last job and worked til 7am, I couldnt fall asleep without a beer or 3. Sun comes up and you wake up. With a little one running around trying to play with you its the only way to stay asleep..

I work night shift. I do it occasionally, though more often I'll wait until lunch time if I want to drink a beer. I usually sleep in the evening, so I'm awake until about 4pm most days.

Most of my drinking happens Friday and Saturday nights, because I have the weekend off.

I'm an RT who works night shift in the ICU as well. It's not uncommon for me to crack a can of Heady before I go to bed. You are not alone.

Once worked a graveyard shift for 6 weeks remodeling the store where I worked at the time. No problem having a beer at 8:00 am. Did get some funny looks buying beer at that time in the morning while wearing my work shirt from the clerk at the store in the same shopping center . He didn't know we were running a graveyard shift during the remodel and thought I was buying the beer before starting work :grinning:

Never worked a night shift but I'm pretty sure this is the norm. I mean, first of all, drink when you want - as long as it's safe - but I don't need to tell you that, obviously you were confident in your decision and are just looking to see how many other people do the same, but I think it's an important point. But I'm pretty sure I've chatted with several BAs who work nights and have a beer after work. I mean, the only difference between your schedule and anyone elses is how light it is outside at the different phases of the day - you've done your job, but up a while, your mouth no longer tastes like toothpaste, you're ready to unwind, and - so what - the sun in coming up. What better possible reason could there be for celebration? Life goes on and beer is good, God Bless America! Good Heavens this 120 minute is hitting me already and it's only half gone! I may not make it through the rest of my to-do list for today. I love you guys.

Sometimes I'll have a beer at breakfast time if I choose. It may be my only beer of the day. Time of day is an illusion. (Just not before work)

Nothing wrong with drinking after a night shift. I drink every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. during the Premier League season. Hell who an I kidding! Weekends are a free for all regardless. I don't drink at all during the week when I'm working though.

Surely there is nothing wrong with it OP. In fact if you come over to WBAYDN you will find plenty of morning beer afficionados to keep you company including myself and some of us did not work all night, we just like the beer that much.

I used to work the night shift and sometimes golf with a friend after work. Sometimes people looked at us weird when we were drinking at 7am on the course.

When I was a kid, my dad would often work overnight shifts so he would be having dinner (and a beer) while I was having breakfast around 7 a.m. Apparently, my Kindergarten teacher had us talk one day about what our mothers and fathers liked eating for breakfast. She pulled my mother aside when she came to pick me up that afternoon and asked if my father had a drinking problem since he was having beer for breakfast. Thankfully this happened in the '80s and not today otherwise we all would have wound up in jail!

I use to request night shift in the winter and days in the summer one reason was where I worked use to give a 10% differential and that added up, drink beer no matter what your shift.

Yes, worked the midnight shift for nearly a year (10:30pm - 7:00am). Had no problem having a few when I got back then passing out because I could never get used to the hours.

There are a number of nurses that do this. I am also an RN and moved to nights last year. "A beer and a Benadryl " is consistent advice I was given by more than one person to help sleep during the day. Benadryl helps but I can't yet bring myself to drink a beer that early. Dinner leftovers yes but not alcohol, not yet. I am still a day person at heart.

Curious what sort of job it was? I'm assuming you worked at a brewery but that could be simply because I want to believe it.
