My only issue is Old Rasputin. That is my favorite easily accessible/affordable RIS.

I dunno, I kinda agree with him on most of that stuff. Although i don't think Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale was ever "rated" highly to begin with.

Yeah, please show me another equal 9% $10-$12 four pack beer that I can get nationwide and year round.

Oh, how I love Will Gordon! The intro was hilarious, and, the list wasn't too terribly bad. Thanks for the link.

heady topper only marginally better than DFH 90 minute, eh? Hmmmm

Maybe he didn't want to take cost into consideration, and was just going on the merits of the beer itself? I haven't read the article just yet, so flame on if he starts the article with 'taking cost into serious consideration...'

Edit: He didn't. I think the list is legit - he says he loves HT, but thinks it's stupid to stand in line all day for it... seems reasonable.

No, he doesn't say anything in regards to cost:

"And Old Rasputin, from the redoubtable producer of America's finest pilsner, is awesome. But it's not as transcendent as its reputation suggests."

I think this is a decent list, but I'd also like to disagree with his assessment on Old Rasputin. I'd also challenge him on Anchor Steam-I don't know, I just like the beer.

He doesn't actually say that most of these beers are "bad", just that maybe they aren't as good as their hype. I did LOL at "Texan Red Stripe" though.

Enjoyable read, have to agree with the majority of the list...especially flagship brews that brewers keep around even though they have way better brews to brag about.

My thoughts exactly, and I love me some 90 minute...but it's almost a syrupy mess compared to Heady.

Also, what's wrong with good ol' raspy? Can't think of a better RIS for the price

As stated many times on here, not everyone has the same tastes.

I prefer 90 Minute over Heady Topper. I like hoppy beers to still have a solid malt flavor. IPA's that just use base malt usually aren't my thing.

Agreed. I love HT, also, but wouldn't stand in line all day for it. Bourbon County? Another story.

"your local breweries flagship" . . . boy that's confidence. How are any of those beers over rated and the 3? craft beers he mentions by name are definitely not overrated.

While I disagree with him about 90 Minute and Heady (much prefer Heady, but I still like 90 Minute) the rest of his points are pretty spot on.

I disagree with his take on HT. First off, 90 minute is not anywhere close to Heady Topper. Second, you dont wait around all day at all. you show up, and get a case in hand in about 20 minutes

My only disagreement is that I personally think Anchor Steam is good. Different tastes, nothing to get upset about.

As for Old Rasputin and HT, the author clearly goes out of his way to point out that "overrated" is not equivalent to "not good" (or even "not great").

Related: the best (my opinion) local beer here is Head Hunter. The most overrated (my opinion) is Head Hunter. It's certainly possible to be both.
