Either way, availability should not be a rating factor of quality. It still is what it is no matter how easy or hard it is to attain.

A good friend of mine and BA prefers 90 minute to HT, tasted side by side. For me, they aren't even close, HT easy. But his point is well taken. I love HT, but if I didn't already go to our house in VT, would I drive there for it rather than buying: Dirt Wolf, Sucks, Lunch, Little Sumpin Extra or even Limbo? No. No chance.

As to the rest, I agree with Kentucky Bourbon Barrel...it is trading on Bourbon County confusion among the masses, and is far, far, far from that.

Yuengling would be #1 on my list. Not sure it is better than Budweiser...maybe just. He nails Heineken and Stella.

I'd disagree on #9, which isn't highly thought of, but is refreshing and Anchor Steam (he just doesn't like malty beers). Old Rasputin may be slightly overrated, but barely.

This site has it as an 83, with the bros giving it an 85. I'd say that's way too high, by about 80.

He's never even had on Oberon?? I can't take him seriously with that lack of beer experience.

I didn't think most of these were that highly rated to begin with...

Definitely disagree with Heady Topper being over rated (although being #1 is debatable). I almost can't even drink shelf IPA's anymore after being spoiled by Heady.

I haven't read the entire article yet, but I just had to pause and post this quote. It make be LOL at work!

"The last Drunkspin list ranked American IPAs, and the preamble stated that to be eligible a beer had to be widely distributed, under 7.5 percent ABV, and sold in my state. That disclaimer helped keep the "What about Pliny and Two-Hearted?" complaints down to a manageable 75 percent of all comments."

Because as he says, most local breweries have gone on to make better beers than their flagship brew. I have trouble thinking of a brewery where that's NOT the case.

312 pays the bills, but BCBS is far better. Get it?

Not sure what he means by "overrated", since half of those beers are rated not all that high. Old Raspy is a very good beer; does he mean it deserves a 93 (on BA) instead of a 96? That's nitpicking

Maybe he means overhyped, but those not-very-highly-rated beers, like Red Stripe, don't receive much hype anyway. They do get a lot of TV time, but he dismisses Bud Light.... :astonished:

Well I'll be damned. I probably should have checked the ratings here before I said anything. To be honest I thought the last time I looked at that beer it was in the 60's or 70's but I probably just have a bad memory.

His needing to comment the way he did on Oberon highlights his ignorance.

I agree with nearly everything. You can't argue with an East Coaster that Yuengling sucks, but it does.

I enjoyed the read, but didn't agree with it all the way. He has a solid dry wit about him. Beeradvocate rating of 3.88.

He thinks MH #9 is significantly worse than Hell or High Watermelon? That one I don't understand at all.

I also don't see how Yuengling is overrated. I enjoy it, but I've not met many craft drinkers that sing high praises for it. It's just average, and that seems to be the general consensus in my experience.
