Don't tar all of us with that brush. It's Pennsylvania folks that overrate it. We just got it recently and I'd be glad to send it back.

HT only marginally better than DFH 90? This guy stretches more than Stretch Armstrong.

Fair point. Flagship can mean different things to different people. I guess I tend to think of it as first and/or most popular everyday beer, which usually isn't the best in my opinion.

And I would have to say that your point is well made too. I first had to retort with my hometown brewer ithaca Beer. So what's better than flower power? Then I laughed because I thought well a few of their sours ( and brute) are actually better than flower power but drink them often? Uh . . . no. And the reason being is because they are not put out in sufficient quantity to do so.

Why a list of 18? Why not 27 or 34? I would have expected this nonsense from Buzzfeed.

I just tried Kentucky Bourbon Barrel for my first time the other day/week and I thought it was great, far better than the rating here measures it at. I have since grabbed a few more bottles of it, which are currently sitting in my fridge, so I am crossing my fingers that repeat experiences can live up to that first one, as I am pretty stoked that I suddenly have access to a nice bourbon barrel amber that is available in 4 packs at a very reasonable price (as I am a huge fan of that style as of late).

I don't think you understand why people from PA have a soft spot for Yuengling. It's not that they think it tastes as good as beer from any of the local PA craft breweries (Victory, Yards, Troegs, Weyerbacher, Stoudts, etc). It's because it is the same price as BMC, and is available everywhere. Bars with happy hour specials on "Domestics" will include Yuengling, but not any "craft" beer.

Going to a tailgate or picnic? It's less than $20 for a case. Find yourself at a dive bar or restaurant that only has Coors Light, Miller Lite, Bud Light, and Yuengling? Yuengling to the rescue.

Yuengling tastes like it's brewed with pond water.

I actually couldn't agree more on Heady and Yuengling, but don't on Old Rasputin. I don't even like it really, but would not consider it over praised these days. Maybe like 10 years ago it was, but that was more due to lack of other options for a good imperial stout.

I feel like most of these beers aren't that highly rated to begin with. At least not enough to be called overrated (HT the exception)

I took it more to mean beers that have their fanboy statuses that may be good but don't or can't live up to the hype (HT) but the list almost entirely shitty beers that many people claim are good-to-great (Magic Hat, Yeungling, Shiner...)

I'm sure Heady Topper is great and all - but I can't drive 15-20 minutes and buy it. There are plenty of DIPAs well worth it that I can.

If I happen to try one sometime, great. Otherwise, no reason to stress about it. There are plenty of great beers at the store.

Is it good? Hell yea. Is it worth the effort people put in to acquire it? Hell no, especially when there are tons of other excellent IPAs on the market which can be bought easily

I do get it. But the price has climbed here and we already had Narraganset for that. The reality is that even at a tailgate, I'm bringing actual good beer. Drink less and better. Besides, every bar has at least Sam Lager (and here in MA, Harpoon IPA). If Yuengling takes a Miller Lite tap handle away, then yes, it has done a good thing, but if it takes away a Wachusett Monsta tap handle? A Mayflower beer? Then that is a bad trade. God forbid somewhere there is a bar that won't put a Be Hoppy tap on and take Yuengling off. That would be an epic tragedy.

Meanwhile Shiner showed up here last week too...so another one from the list to poach shelf space and tap handles. But I'd drink it over Yuengling for sure.
