So I've been wondering if anyone on here as ever put together an advocate tasting at a neutral site.Say a hotel somewhere? I've been pondering this idea. Say you bring from your cellar your TOP 2-3 beers plus any of your favorites. Everyone can post what they are bringing, hype it up for awhile and talk about it for weeks after. I know his has been done say pre or post beer festivals, by what about an area/hotel solely for this tasting? Just curious on everyone's thoughts. This could be a good opportunity for advocates to meet one another and not just the ones that were lucky enough to land beer festival tickets.

Why a hotel? that seems odd. one guy gets the chair and everyone else has to sit on the bed? lol

Yeah people have done it but the organizing activity usually takes place within a regional forum as people find it more accessible, etc. travel wise to all be in the same geo area. The other thing about local tasting groups is that it is easier to find a physical location. Some restaurants/bars will let folks use their "big room" space and even "cater" the food if folks are willing to pay (and tip).

Bottle shares show up in the regional forums - maybe check there or post up the suggestion yourself to get things rolling. I don't think it is easy on a larger scale (travel and such), but in a smaller local area (ie, the regional foums) there should be sufficient interest and opportunity. I know for sure there have been some attempts in Providence and Boston - whether they have actually occurred or not, I don't know...

The thread title...sounds a little cannibalistic...and in a hotel room, no less...

Lol! I didn't mean an actual hotel room, but rather in a conference room at the hotel or something along those lines. The only reason I mentioned hotel is people could drink up and walk to their rooms after and not worry about travel.

Yeah I don't think I'd want to taste a BeerAdvocate. They're either too bitter or too sour and or lack balance.

Don't be silly, we can share the chair...

haha, no but really....just meet at a bar or something first to make sure you aren't going to being told to put the lotion on your skin, then if all goes well, host it at someone's house.

Welcome to my humble abode! So we'll be having the tasting down in the hole, I usually use it for my cellar but I cleared some room for guests. The bucket only holds one person at a time so we'll have to take turns getting down there. Thank you all for coming! Again, I'm just so excited.

Funny we are up to stout night number five now, but the first stout night was indeed held in a motel room after the motel reneged on its promise to let us use the conference room. I don't recommend a motel or a hotel. Pay corkage at a bar/restaurant if you want a neutral space, or have it hosted at a member's home is the best way to do it.

We had a great time doing a multi day tasting at a campground recently.

CaveDave....your username is a little to convenient for this subject. How much lotion have you purchased lately? What's your ratio of buckets to holes in your house? :astonished:

And you, sir, are a little too obsessed with the idea of it, and I am now uncomfortable answering :slight_smile: Ratio of buckets to holes is a sort of bizarre question to ask, no?
