I think the most logical conclusion is that this is the label for 2014 Darkness. I can't even believe I'm having to say that. This thread has gone bonkers.

I'm just hoping for a couple of things:
    - bottles are priced at or below $30
    - allotments are similar to last year
    - nobody carjacks a Prius

If there is not a beer on tap this year at Darkness Day with "Prius" in the name... So help me Bob.

I'm hoping for something along the lines of "Eco Zombie".

I really hate to say this... but I don't care what it cost, I went to college and got a good job that I hate every single day so I can buy expensive beers.

Based on the bottle count last year, they'd need 80 or more 53 gallon barrels JUST to have enough BA Darkness to fill that amount of 750ml bottles. You take into account kegs and a potential second batch for Chicago or other markets and you are looking at ALOT of barrels that take up ALOT of space.

Surly has clearly maxed out the BC facility and then some. They are practically running 24/7 and having to cancel seasonal releases (Wet) to keep up with regular demand.

If the label is correct and '14 Darkness is barrel aged, would it be correct in assuming they brewed alot less of it? Possibly for the same reasons Wet won't be brewed at all this year (fermenter space)?

Lack of additional brewing capacity does not necessarily mean they don't have room to store barrels (though agree that 80+ barrels is going to take up some space).

Or uh, they easily could have just leased additional space to store barrels for aging, if space at the brewery is an issue

80 barrels is really not that many, nor that much storage space. I know multiple breweries with 1% of Surly's production who have at least that many barrels.

So, I guess this isn't common knowledge, but Surly DOES lease a warehouse in St. Paul and that's where they are storing their barrels, among other things.

It's confirmed; all 2014 Darkness will be BA. Pretty neat I think.

    Well I'm glad that's settled.

So at the bottle share, do people drink out of Solo cups or bring their own glasses or what?

Personally, I bring a smallish goblet(8-10oz) and use it for bottle sharing as well as pouring the Surly beer out of the plastic cup on Darkness Day itself.

I guess all of our whiney that they never make barrel aged darkness or variants finally paid off. Who wants to start a thread complaining that they like the original darkness and it's not fair that surly is only doing barrel aged darkness this year?
