Founder's Russian Imperial Stout is by far the best beer I've ever had.

This is the beverage on my Death Row Last Meal menu.

I only listed ones I could form an educated opinion on. I explained why I left it off.

I think the original poster left already. Or he's drunk as hell right now and standing in a beer aisle looking for KBS...

If you can find it, I highly recommend Drake's Crude Oatmeal Stout by Erie Brewing Co, or Dragon's Milk Bourbon Barrel Stout by New Holland.

The Drake;s Crude is EASILY my favorite beer of all time.

Voo doo is AWESOME! I was going to include that with my post about EDMUND FITZGERALD which is not a stout. I SHOULD have a DARK HORSE -special reserve black ale that is actually a hopped out American Stout.

Started out with the different Guinness stout varieties available because that was what my rugby club buds were drinking, then moved on to Young's Double Chocolate Stout, accompanied by cocoa almonds as I watched the NZ All Blacks beat out the rest of the world's teams ... That led me to start trying out other chocolate stouts, including Russian Imperials, and American Doubles.
So, I have been trying every one I come across, which is what I heartily recommend -- Cheers!

Avery's Uncle Jacob's stout is my all-time favorite. My friends and I preferred it over KBS and BCBS in a taste test. It's a heavy stout at 17.43% (the 2013 release).

Check out my haul -- thank you for all your suggestions. Keep them coming if you think of any others. I'm sure the selection will widen as the weather cools and availability deepens.

I've had a founders, which i found super thick. It was big and tasty upfront with and smooooth almost flat finish. btw, one and done -- I was buzzn. Then i moved on to an allagash. Very nice also. Not as thick and more complex toward the end. Will try the victory tonight.

    Awesome!

Let us know how you like them and how you think they stack up against each other....

But please don't attempt to drink them all in one night.

Here's my update and review from my original post. It takes a while to get through these high ACL stouts... but here goes:

This is the order in which ranked the 7 stouts i could find between NJ and VT (and with the help of many of you i might add!). Btw, All were very good so i'm splitting hairs here a bit:

#7) Samuel Smith -- Overall very good. Nice chocolate flavor but had a iron-type aftertaste. Not my favorite. But a decent starter. (not shown in pic above)

#6) Gunniess Foreign Extra Stout -- Smooth but smaller than the rest, including Samuel Smiths. Coffee background flavor. Like an Old Rasputin light. Good carbonation and nice balance. Not as complex as some of the others. (no pic either)

#5) Stone Imperial -- First sip, tasty... Nice and thick. But smooth. Longest extended flavor profile of all the stouts. Chocolate... to coffee... to espresso... iddunno. Nice. Slight metallic which is why it only came in #5 for me.

#4) Founders Imperial Stout. Super thick. Will Stain your lips-thick. Flat Carb. Big taste. Semi-sweet-coffee/chocolate. A particular choice. Personally, i thought it was a little unbalanced (don't kill me)... needed more carbonation to carry the big flavors. again, MO.

#3) Allagash Black -- Nice bitter that disappears with a coffee afterglow. Good drinker. Thanks for the suggestion. Will revisit this one.

#2) Victory Storm King: Wow. Great stout. Thick. Big. Balanced. Sweet, but not as sweet as the founders. Big malt coffee flavor. I enjoyed this and will buy more during snowboard season. This was very close to my favorite stout which is...

#1) Old Rasputin: I mean wow!!! What a stout. Big, bold ... a coffee roller-coaster ride with no metallic aftertaste. Big carbonation that supports the big flavor. On the medium side mouth feel--so not too thick. My fav (along with VST) by far. Not even a contest. Again, MO.

AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL! I will continue my stout drinking journey as the cold weather approaches. Looking forward to trying the sweeter stouts. Founders Breakfast... oatmeal stouts... etc.. Thank you all for your help.

Cheers! Everybody's palate is different and that is why it's great that there is so much variety. My least favorite(lowest scored) stout I have had so far is Victory Storm King(3.5 iirc) yet many such as you are fans of it. Thanks for letting us know what you ended up trying and liking! Love stouts!
