Good day all you Languishing Lovers of Liquid Bread and Adoring Acolytes of Altbier, Happy New Beer Sunday.

A cloudy and cool morning has led to a beautifully warm day, perfect for a bike ride up a rocky path in a nearby forest preserve called Hemlock Ridge. Back in the day we used to make it up the main path without hopping off our mountain bikes, and over the years explored all the deer trails leading through the hemlock stands and mixed hardwoods. Today am hoping not to need to walk my old metal friend more than half the way up the hill.

What better way to build up a thirst than a bike ride, and what better salve for sore muscles and parched palate than a new beer? Hope you have one or three ready to enjoy with us!

Today is the day, and this is the place. Why not TRY a new beer today? TELL us about it. What do you taste, smell, and think? Do you LOVE it? Why? What do you love about it? Not your "cup of tea "(love mixing metaphors heheh)? What didn't you care for in the beer? Your review or a description that tells a story is greatly appreciated by all. Feel free to hopshot our heads (in homebrew fashion of course ) with linked review, pics, videos, and other world wide web wackiness to enhance our virtual tasting session.

Thanks to everyone for their participation, thus making NBS fresh, fun, and informative.

This Week's New Beer Sunday- Rodenbach Grand Cru

    Roeselare Belgium
    Brouwerij Rodenbach N.V.
    Style- Flanders Red Ale
    6% ABV
    750ml

Hope everyone had a great week and a nice relaxing weekend. The weather in Atlanta has been unseasonably cooler than normal which is nice. We are usually known for our brutal summers but again this year, not the case. College football is just around the corner and we are hoping for much success from Athens.

Well I have wanted to try the Rodenbach Grand Cru ever since I tried the Duchess of Bourgogne which was quite intense. To me these are two completely different beers.

I poured the Grand Cru in my Duval Glass and produced a great 3 finger head and a beautiful ruby red color. Slight foam lacing on the side of the glass that quickly rolls down back into the beer. The aroma compared to the Duchess was more of a red wine vinegar than a balsamic vinegar which I thought was way more inviting. The taste was slightly biting but not intense, sour, dry and refreshing. Alcohol seems non existent. The Rodenbach Grand Cru is a beer I enjoyed for a while and did not rush.

Happy NBS to you cavedave and everyone else today. Gorgeous, sunny August day in S. WI. Going to be heading off to the pool in an hour or so with the family.

I woke up early to make some pancakes and crack open a Mobcraft Candy for Breakfast. It is a nice robust porter, but I thought should have had more flavors of what was touted on the label, coffee, peanuts, and cocoa. The porter itself was quite good, but I really didn't pick up an peanut flavor, only light coffee and cocoa. Too bad, because it would have been a home run if those flavors were more prominent.

New German Helles Lager Sunday (week 493)

A beauty day up on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Getting ready for a bike ride that is more techincal and difficult than I have done in some years, but which I must master again if I have any hope of getting on skiis this winter. Lotta folks doing some incredible recycling. Got a 10 spot tip from someone who thanked me for encouraging our town to be as green as we have become. That felt good, man.

This beer feels pretty good, too. Not my usual American beer today, but a style rarely done to this level of perfection by any brewers with whom I am familiar. so I will leave you with, Hope you have Great Beer In Your Glass. Cheers!

So as I was patientely awaiting NBS, I decided to have my last beer of SN Camp. I thought that New Glarus There and Back was the perfect beer to end it on. A very enjoyable variety pack, will we see one like it again?

There and back is a tasty ESB and the first time Dan has brewed this style (shocking). He made a very enjoyable beer with plenty of malts and light toffee. It is built up with very earthy hops and a slight bitterness. He should brew an ESB again for folks in WI and offer it in 6 packs during the fall.

I'll be sure to check back to see what new beers others are trying today. Cheers!

hi y'all and Happy new Beer Sunday. My entire morning has been plagued with problems with firefox. First it sputtered and crashed, then I lost my maximize minimize button THEN it would not open without asking me to run as administrator, it ran away fromt eh taskbar and now that I have pinned it back it has that windows shield on it telling me it's wrong . . so wrong, and finally I can not deal with a browser that has to ask me each time I open it to make changes to the computer. I put the fox out and got chrome. It's a lovely browser. LUckily my bookmarks made it over and now I know a little about transparency and aero settings for the desktop.

ANYWAY. I am having a lovely beer from Tired Hands. My very first thanks to @larryi86 . Thank you Larry. This beer was awesome and here is my review.

[IMG] Good afternoon to all the NBSers out there! Well I started my month long trek of no beer on Thursday and only made it two days. My bosses son returned from a family trip up north with a little surprise for me! Honestly I don't get what all the hype is about. Although a very good beer, I'm not sure if it's the hop or malt , but something gives me that flavor of drinking barf? Is this what people mean by dank? Either way I prefer another one over lunch and now over dinner as well. At least I got to try it. I forgot to mention I had this last nite so it was technically Sunday. But back to no beer till Aug. 31 for now. Enjoy your Sundays everyone

I've never posted on this thread yet, so here goes. I found a new Twisted Pine IPA called Hop Zealot. Let me tell you, I'm not a hop head but I love a good IPA. Hop Zealot fills my needs with it's spiciness, malts, floral notes, and grapefruit bitter finish. I love this IPA.

    New Weizenbock Sunday

    Greeting NBSer's,
And thanks to CaveDave for kicking us off. His avator is of Jerry Garcia who would have turned 72 on Friday had he still been in this world. I miss Jerry Garcia, but I guess his time had come.
We've been in a streak of nice weather here in SCMN, with hardly a day of excessive heat. Just real nice summer days. We could use a shower or two to round things off, but that's an observation not a complaint.
Plowing through the wiezen beers brewed by Schell's and enjoying that as much as Beer Camp. But today I go with the former. A highly drinkable version of style, probably not big enough for those inclined that way, but for those who lean more towards drinkability a nearly perfect fit.

    ***New American Blonde Ale Sunday!!!

    Cheers to the NBS family!

It's 75f currently in Casper, headed to a balmy 90f.

Another offering from Liquor Shed's Growler station caught my eye. Mainly because of the 4.5% abv thingy. Turns out, it is a nicely flavoured, highly drinkable Golden/Blonde Ale. And at $2.50 a pint, it's very good value for the money as well.

So many new beers to choose from today! Might as well start with a brewery I'm familiar with, and whose beers are usually quite good. Jack's Abby Sunny Ridge is a German style Pilsner brewed in the Lager fashion of cold conditioning. It pours smoothly with a golden color and nice head of more than 2 inches. The first sip yielded a surprising grassy, or earthy flavor, with some nice hops kicking in on the backside. The finish was very clean. I really enjoyed the complexity of the flavor - this beer is deeelicious! All in all, another excellent offering from Jack's Abby Brewing!

Playing around with my GoPro and having a NB2M...

Very nice Double Belgium Wit by Boulevard...a summer seasonal in the Smokestack Series http://www.boulevard.com/BoulevardBeers/two-jokers-double-wit/ all the flavors of your standard Belgium and that added zing of citrus punch to help throw it over the top! Almost a sour but the wheat side keeps it grounded...at 8% ABV it's a nice beer to start off the day.

I keep my reviews short and sweet...or in this case short and sour. I give it a solid 4 on the Richter scale...salud!

Good afternoon from an overcast and drizzly CT, NBSers! (Far preferred from a wet and hot Summer day, by a mile.) I have two beers I'm excited to get to, and share with you, this fine New Big Boy Beer Sunday.

Finally getting to try a long-awaited beer whose brewery does not distribute to my state:

I got this beer in a trade with @capnamerica, and it survived my trip to Syracuse, two weeks of hotel living, and the trip home, all in a cooler full of ice (well, sometimes full). A full week of cellaring, and 30 minutes of the refrigerator, I present you with: Bell's Expedition Stout.

Sad attempt at a pour pic.

    Fish photobomb!

Damn, this beer checks all the boxes for a fantastic, traditional (?) Russian Imperial Stout. The flavor is dominated by roasted barley and dark cacao; not added chocolate, like a dessert stout, just a fantastic malt profile. Many stouts have a sour, overripe dark fruit profile; this one has a bit of dark fruit, but no tartness. The only - and very minor - negative is that it's a hot beer; there's a very noticeable alcohol presence in the aroma (which is pleasant), and some back-end alcohol heat.

    Review below:
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/1444/?ba=Roguer
    4.45 / +5.2%

After a long, long string of -rDevs, I'm glad to have a bit of a run on positives. 6 of my last 10 have been above average, with this beer and Jack's Abbey Hopstitution having the largest +rDev (+10.3% for the latter). Two of my recent -rDevs have been for brand new Beer'd brews, so the sample size isn't particularly telling (one of which I will be fully reviewing today, and sharing with you later on). Beer Camp has helped; I'm not blown away (although I love Maillard's Odyssey and Double Latte), but I tend to find the beers better than the average opinion has borne out.

Cheers, NBSers; I'll see you again soon!

Second New Beer - Davidson Brothers Brewing Company IPA. This is a new brewery for me, based out of Glens Falls, but this beer was contract brewed by Shipyard Brewing in Maine. Apparently they have a large brewpub in Glens Falls, so I'll have to check it out the next time I go up towards Lake George.

Anyway, this beer has a strong alcoholic smell upon opening it - almost like a barleywine beer might have. It pours very foamy straight up; I had to wait a few minutes for the head to settle before resuming. The first sip confirms the strong burn of alcohol (not listed on the bottle, but BA has it at only 5.90%) and lots of hops bitterness, but unfortunately not a lot more in terms of taste, other than a metallic finish that was not pleasant. Bottom line, there are a lot of other IPAs that are far better than this one. It cost me $10.99, as much as the Sculpin I bought at the same time, which is far superior.

Rodenbach - especially the aged vintages - is perhaps the most fabulously complex and perfectly crafted beers I've ever had. Sours aren't for everyone, I get that. This is truly a wine-drinkers beer. Glad you enjoyed it.

I love and appreciate what you do, man. Where I lived (a few times) in South Carolina, there is no recycling pick up service; you have to drive your stuff to a center. No one is going to do that; it's far too inconvenient. I wish there had been an independent service that filled that community need.

    Cheers!

    Happy New Dunkelweizen Sunday-
    [IMG]

I'm spending a lovely afternoon getting caught up on some yard work that's been put off for the last three weeks, as well as enjoying some of the fruits of my labor.

I'm enjoying a Hacker-Pschorr Sternweisse right now. It's a limited edition beer, and not your typical Dunkelweizen (well, that's what I'm calling it, anyway ). The focus is on the malts, bready and lightly toasty, with a restrained spicy yeast signature playing the supporting role. The banana aroma seems to be the most restrained of all, with the cloves coming in at medium level. In a way it reminds me of Schneider (original recipe), but much less intense. A very easy drinker, especially for those not too into the yeasty aspect, that finishes pleasingly dry and leaves you wanting more.

Jefferson Airplane does sound like a good idea on a day like today-

    Cheers!
