    This is really good!
Nice IPA. A little sweet on the front end. Sweet from the hops though not malt. Nice little bite on the back end. Really easy to drink.

Glad to hear that @Roxie_B is doing well enough to join in today! Since the race is still going on, and it looks like that sleazewaffle Little Earnhardt might win, I figured I'd jump into the Beer Camp 12 pack. I started with what I think is going to be my least favorite, the coffee beer. I hate coffee, and along with pumpkin, are the two things that just ruin a beer for me. It turned out alright for what it is, and I think I gave it a fair review: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/127563/?ba=beertunes

Let's have a go at one of the beers I brought home from a recent trip...poured into a spiffy glass I picked up during the same trip. Sorry for fuzzy pic; having some issues with the camera settings.

A: Very dark brown, almost black. A big, frothy, bubbly head sticks around for a bit; no lacing to speak of.

S: Roasted malt and cocoa / bittersweet chocolate. Smells like I expect a porter to smell.

T: Flavor more or less follows the nose, and there's a bit of sweetness there as well. No bitterness; clean finish. Easy to drink, but unremarkable in any characteristic.

M: Seems a bit thin to me; not exactly watery, but I would have preferred a bit more body from a porter.

O: A decent porter; very drinkable, but it didn't impress me enough to seek it the next time I'm in Caldera's distribution area.

    Greetings, fellow NBSers,

It's just under 90 degrees right now in the largest and perhaps oddest city between Seattle and Minneapolis. It's been a bit hazy from the various fires, but nowhere as bad as a couple of weeks ago (when it looked like a rainy day in Tacoma, without the moisture). I hate to admit it, but some of our recent sunsets have actually been enhanced a bit from all the smoke in the air.

In local beer news, a Growler Guys opened yesterday on the north side of the city. I initially planned to stop there after I got off work today, but decided to wait until Tuesday when I get paid (plus it's hot and I don't want to drive across town and back with a growler of beer cooking in my car). Another one is supposed to open much closer to me later this summer, and I will probably become a regular visitor to it.

I've actually had three new beers this week - an Altbier from Germany (naturally) that, while not fantastic, was a well-made example of the style, and a Slovak pilsener that was an uninspired attempt to grab some of Pilsener Urquell's thunder, right down to the label. Today's new beer was a session version of a Canadian brewery's IPA that I found outstanding. Sadly, this version was not so distinctive - or even good:

I'll be back with something else. This beer literally left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

    ****New RYE BEER Sunday****

    with honey!

I love that bee. But Four Corners' rooster is sweet, too:

That "golden ale" printed on the can makes me think "blonde ale," but this sucker's all about the rye playing off the honey. You taste both, and the rye twang dominates this beer experience -- and in a good way. It's still very blonde-esque but also much, much more.

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30364/99042/?ba=Premo88

    I gave it a 4.04 overall (+14.8%).

The beer has one of the full-top pop-off lids, which at best do nothing for me. Worse, though, I think it loosens the pour enough to make a difference. Count me as not a fan, but hopefully it helps Four Corners sell a few more beers. It's not that big a deal in the end.

On a more positive note, we've got taste AND clarity:

Notice the label's on the far side of the glass. My clarity shots suck, but you can see from the label that this sucker's like yellow glass. Not sure why I'm so into it, but when a beer has a ton of taste and is clear, I get real happy.

Speaking of, Cavedave's story of Hemlock Ridge makes me happy ... happy for you, Mr. Cave, that you're on the bike and you've got a cool spot to take it; and happy that I recently discovered a kickass nature trail to use for my "power" walks:

Photos never do the spot justice, but you get the idea ... here's hoping you got some good beer in your glass (and a good place to work it off later this week .

    Cheers!

New Belgian Strong Dark Ale Sunday!

Ok NBS crew, I'm going to keep it simple and about this new beer that I found. It's very unusual for me to find any De Dolle brews around my local area. So I was stoked to find this cute little booger. Ok enough gabber, this is my new brew.

This brew as you guys can see pours brilliant. Dark mysterious brown body with a light khaki head. Very nice! Ok, next. The aroma is just as good. Very dense dark fruit notes. The foremost dominate aroma is of sour cherries. Mixed with sweet earthy spices. Warm cinnamon and brown sugar. I'm liking this already! The flavor is initially of mixed fruits (tart cherries and tart apples). The second wave is a hit of toasted malt goodness a melange of toffee and spices. The finish is bone dry with some bitterness and a balanced lactic sourness. The feel for this little booger is Medium light body and fine tight carbonation.

Overall: This beer is a liquid masterpiece. You think just because it pours Dark and It's Belgian that it's going to be a syrupy mess. Nothing is further from the truth. Yeasty, Malty and has an underlaying Hop bite as well (sorry I didn't add that until now). This beer is all over the place yet balanced. The dry finish draws you in for another sip, like a tractor beam! Are you a fan of Tart Fruits? You a fan of BSDA? Want them balanced in one beer? Then this beer is for you! This beer is Recommended. Grade: an A!

I don't mean barf like drinking straight puke, but it's gotta be one of the hop varietals as I've tasted it in other IPAs. Just reminds mean of the taste in my mouth after my nights drinkin a decade ago

Hop Drop N Roll is one of the most ridiculously delicious beers I have had in the last year. So full of hoppy goodness that doesn't kill your palate with pine tar nor bitter pith, just malty enough to hold together.
