Busy day catching up on chores around the house, but finally settled in to fire up the grill and enjoy a new beer.

It doesn't look like we are going to get the Beer Camp 12 packs around here, but we did finally get the West Coast Double IPA so I figured why not? It's kind of an odd size, 24 oz with a short squatty bottle, but at $6 it seems reasonably priced.

Overall, some interesting things going on here, but it's a touch sweet and lacks any of the citrus punch I enjoy in other IPAs. I liked it enough to finish the bottle, but would pass on getting more.

Good evening IPA imbibers and consumers of Kolsch! Cheers!
Having the SN/Bell's Maillard's Odyssey tonight; received this as a gift from a friend at work who knows I like dark beers more than he does along with the Double Latte that I had on Friday.
Pours a deep dark black with a thick tan colored head that leaves a ton of lacing in the glass.
Aromas of chocolate, espresso and roasted malts.
Tons of espresso, baker's chocolate. Bitterness is there, but tons of chocolate too! Picking up on some smokiness too.
A tasty stout full of roasted malts and tongue coating goodness, not too carbonated.
    A damn fine beer indeed!

    Cheers!

No smoke but all the flavor. I love me some good old American craft beer but when it comes to bier auf Deutschland, why fuck with a good thing? It's beer good for over a century, so stick with what works, right?

This one is the flag for the Republic of Cascadia. There's an element that wants statehood for Cascadia, much like there's an element that wants statehood for Jefferson, currently known as Northern California. In 'Best Beer State" thread, I suggested Cascadia was the best beer state. My post got deleted. Thus....

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Good give off the cork with a big pop.

Deep peach orange body, roaring middle column of carbonation in the middle of the body, with side white small pinhead bubbles cascading the sides of the glass. Head is soapy and off white in color, but with lots of snapping carbonation and little retention, but manages to settle slowly, and stick with a good half finger puck. Real good looking brew.

Aroma is like classic white grape, slightly sweet. Big dry powdery wood notes, almost like sawdust. Fruit angle somewhere around faint sour lemon and big oily zest. Not much hint of barrel aging character from the bouquet so far, but a solid nose.

Palate has lots of tang. Big notes of lemon and citrus juice. Big zesty and oily coating tangy finish, with a hint of wet juiced body, and much toned down dryness. Big zesty notes on this, with oily bitter finish. Comes off with just a real balanced sweetness on the finish as well to match the sour tang. Minimal pucker, with a good simple malt depth. Moderate carbonation with just a bit of mouth play, and lip coating fruity oils.

It doesn't hint at thick round character, but the barrels (yeast?) really made the fruit and lemon notes just burst alive. Real good take on a wild ale brew.

    --------------------------------

This was a little bit pricey, and I was hesitant, but it's really enjoyable, particularly for the white wine drinking fans. Although it comes off more lighter sweeter pinot grigio than buttery chard, which is great for me the ABC wine drinker (Anything But
    Chardonnay).

    Cheers!

I'm a fan of Short's and their array of daredevil offerings at times. I've passed on this one in the past because it just didn't sound appealing to me. Well the daredevil in me decided to take the bait this year.

Pours a sparkling gold with ample white head. Nicely carbonated and looks like any adjunct lager.

Aroma is pretty tame, smells pretty much like an IPA or hoppy pale, nothing extraordinary.

The taste is where it separates itself. I've never munched on a Christmas tree before, but damn, this is a liquid one in my glass! Pine, followed by big spruce notes. A strange flavor on the back that almost taste like cold cuts, perhaps salami? A numbing mouthfeel after drinking a few ounces, and a feeling like tree sap is coating your tongue. Very dry to finish.

In all, a very strange but interesting beer from Short's. They definitely nailed what they were after. I enjoyed it for what it is, but a sixer is enough for me. I'll hide a few in the fridge and share with people around Christmas. Should make for great conversation!

I'm giving it a 4/5 because it is pretty much as advertised. I would love to try a darker maltier version of this. A bit of sweetness might balance the overwhelming spruce flavor.

    Greetings All:

A nice sunny and warm day here in the Columbia Basin. Temps in the low 90's. I spent the afternoon brewing my pale ale I call 'Fencepost' in keeping with the rural surroundings. For those of you following along, burner soot problem from last week solved.

So today it is Sculpin IPA from Ballast Point Brewing in San Diego. I'm just guessing a submariner is running this brewery.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/199/29619/?ba=RJLarse

A very good IPA. Sweeter than the offering from the neighboring Stone Brewery, but very good indeed.

    Until next week,

    Happy Trails!

I was thinking of grabbing those too, but not looking to drop that much on beer.

I know! I did a search to find their beer it looks like State Line was the only store in Cecil County to get any and I have only found one bar in Delaware that only gotten a handful of kegs.

Good even NBS, hope everyone is enjoying their end to the weekend. I've just been relaxing all day, took a 4 hour nap this afternoon as well. Here are my new ones this evening:

A delicious English pale ale! Taste of caramel, toast, brown bread, plum, apple, nuttiness, light roast, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Extremely clean and well balanced malt, earthy hop, and yest ester flavors. Light earthy bitterness on the finish gives it great balance. Very good robustness of flavors for 5% as well. I really enjoyed this. 88/100
    [IMG]

Very nice Belgian Dark ale. Taste of caramel, chocolate, toast, coffee, brown bread, brown sugar, raisin, plum, clove, pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice yeast spiciness on the finish. Well balanced yeast, malt, and light earthy hop flavors. Smooth and fairly crisp in the mouthfeel. Nicely enjoyable and tasty. 86/100
    [IMG]

Last of my camping. Excellent all around. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, cream, light vanilla, light caramel, dark bread, light char, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Great balance of the roasted bitterness/sweetness profile. Moderate creamy and very smooth, nice mouthfeel. Very enjoyable. 92/100
    [IMG]

This is awesome! I love regular Golden Monkey so much, even though it seems like everyone else hates it(like that even matters though). I love this one just as much. Taste of lemon, orange zest, golden raisin, pear, apple, apricot, white wine, vanilla, oak, coriander, clove, light pepper, candi sugar, herbal, and yeast/oaky earthiness. Simply excellent balance of the wine barrel notes and tripel base. It works so well. Nice crisp finish, I love it. 94/100
