Do you have a "beer quirk"?

Maybe not exactly a quirk, but I'm not sure what else to call it.

Anyway, I really don't like paring beer with food. The flavors in the food interfere with my enjoyment of a well-brewed beer. I prefer to drink beer before and after eating and have something like iced tea during the meal. Even snacks get in the way. Popcorn, chips, cheese---I'd rather have my beer by its wonderful self.

Anyone else have their own quirk about beer?

Can't drink beer straight from the can/bottle unless it's a macro. I gotta look at what I'm drinking. It's part of the experience.

I totally agree with not pairing beer with food. Especially if it's a beer I'm trying for the first time

I also do no think that too many beer styles go all that well with food. Lagers go with food . . . pilsners . . . but not IPA's. And no matter what anyone says there's only so much cheese you can eat before you crave some actual food to go with your beer.

My quirk is that I want all my beer to be poured into my tasting glass which holds a scant less than 12 ounces and then the rest on the second pour after the head falls. Lays classic potato chips go with EVERY kind of beer.

I'm very much disinclined to buy a new beer that catches my eye if it doesn't have its ABV printed on the bottle/can out of general principle. This is more of a pet peeve than a quirk, but whatever.

I think most folks on this site have many of what the non/beer loving world would describe as quirks: for example

An entire cupboard shelf dedicated to glass wear
    Proper serving temp
    Over rinsing glass wear
Paying through the nose for a six pack
    Drinking violently hoppy beer
Drinking coke or water when there is only BMC at a party
Bringing a nice beer to a party to avoid drinking coke or water
Talking about beer at a bar rather than bullshitting while enjoying the beer
Posting about beer on this site
    Weight gain
Driving 50 miles and past three beer stores to get to "the good place"
Drinking beer that costs $2.00 per oz.
Keeping beer in your basement for years waiting for it to get "some age on it"
    BA app on phone
    BA in "favorites" on laptop
Standing at the beer store for 20 minutes deciding what six pack to buy
    You know what wiesn' is
    Knowing what IBU's are

Many more I am sure but these are a few of mine!

I don't know if you'd classify it as a quirk, but I almost never order the same beer twice when I go out. I don't mind having a second or third of the same thing when I am at home of hanging at a friends place, but i really never do that at a bar or restaurant. In fact I got kind annoyed when I was out with some people a few weeks ago. I went to the restroom and when I got back the waitress had already brought me another of what I had ordered the first time. One of my friends thought he was doing me a favor by ordering it when he noticed mine was empty. I didn't mention it, but it did sort of piss me off.

I almost never chill my beer. 95% percent of the beer is drink is in boxes on my kitchen flood and I poured them straight into proper glassware without chilling the beer.

I get very upset when a restaurant serves a beer in the wrong glass. I absolutely have that cupboard shelf devoted solely to beer glassware mentioned above.

I had beer hidden in many places through out my house because I ran out of space to keep it. Pantry, beer crisper in the fridge, under the stairs, upstairs closet, garage fridge, house fridge, kegerator...then I bought a complete shelving unit and moved everything into a closet. Wife was pleased...but I still keep stuff in the beer crisper!

I don't get the "don't pair beer with food" school of thought. There is no better beverage for pairing with food. Want complementary? Beer is it. Contrast? Beer. Cut through fats and acids? Beer. Carbonation to help cleanse the palate for the next bite? Cervesa. I drink plenty of whatever beverage is at hand, but if there's not an acceptable beer handy with a meal, it's either water or milk.

You must try Leipziger Gose with baked cod- not over-cooked, but nice and flaky. Also, deep in Winter Smuttynose Robust Porter with my wife's beef stew is a remarkable pairing. Maybe you have a nice stew recipe? Stilton or Roquefort with a truly great stout or bba dark beer of some kind makes both better. Beer and food is as versatile as wine and food. My beer "quirk" is that I hate to run out, so I don't.

i think i agree with both parties here...no food if i am trying a hard to find beer for the first time, beer with food when i have had it before and want a complete food&bev experience.
