A friend of mine shipped me a box of various stuff (from Tampa). After telling him to use UPS or Fedex, he still went with USPS priority mail. This is my first time shipping OR receiving. The tracking slip online still says it is in transit. But it should have arrived a week ago. Neither one of us wants to investigate further. Should we assume that it is gone or should we call and try and see what is up??
I personally would investigate it. I would pretend that it was a gift from an old college friend and I had no idea what he was sending me.... "Last winter he sent me a box of lemons and oranges from Florida.... Was that not it again? Oh, it was BEER?!?! That is odd, I guess I never told him that I don't really drink anymore. Sorry about any inconvenience, I will let my buddy know that beer is off limits." I (and basically everybody else on this site) know it is against the law to ship USPS... but in nearly 9 years of beer trading for me, I cannot think of anybody ever actually getting in trouble by the Feds.
Call USPS customer service. They are pretty helpful, surprisingly, even if they may have no idea where the package may be because of the shitty tracking system. In my experience of lost/missing packages in general, they never asked what's in the box, unless you file a claim. "Gift" or "personal products" should be generic enough or go with what @JohnGalt1 suggested if they asked. If you want to embarrass the heck out of them if they pry, say "sex toys" then start listing what they are .
I can get where you're coming from, but when the activity is of questionable legality (or at least against the shipper's rules), I'd say asking a question here before doing so is warranted.
In my experience, USPS boxes go missing for weeks fairly regularly. Stuff I gave up for dead miraculously shows up 2-3 weeks later.
This. Have had multiple boxes shipped from the exact same location within a day or two and the second box has shown up a week before the first....typically around the holidays but had it happen one other time as well...
