Just saw a FB post from The Beer Stein in Eugene, saying they are receiving their shipment of Pliny bottles. Any other confirmation? What the background story is? Copy and paste here:

"Today we received what will probably be our last shipment of bottles of Pliny the Elder (1 per person, per usual). Russian River is pulling their bottle sales out of Oregon (we will continue to get draught occasionally). We encourage you to try the many other Imperial IPAs that grace our shelves both regularly and seldom: "

That 90-minute silence since you posted this is the sound of everyone in Oregon running out to hoard whatever's left.
I understand; we've already been through it up here.

Interesting. All the usual suspects got their normal (one case, typically) allocation last week (on 8/31), and this is the first word I've heard of any problem. Of course if memory serves, it was sometime after RR was actually pulled out of Washington before Vinne and Natalie announced the move in their blog. 16 tons had it on tap on Friday, and there was no mention of any problem or shortage when I ordered a pint. I asked about bottles, but was just told the usual... they came and went the same evening they arrived (even with the one bottle purchasing limit), which of course is typical.

Based on some of the stories I've read about the brewpub in Santa Rosa having to impose periodic purchasing limits, I guess this wouldn't come as a total shock. Still, just speaking as a craft beer consumer in Eugene, this is the first I've heard about this (though I'll certainly ask for more information next time at the Bier Stein - but that won't be till tomorrow, at the earliest).

I was told that this was going to happen about a year ago, but wasn't sure if it was true. Guess it is.

Then it's just Colorado and Philly, right? (assuming the news proves true)

You guys got any suggestions on Pliny replacements, maybe from a local brewery? :-)

Philly has never gotten bottles of Pliny. They get bottles of some of the sours, and kegs of just about everything (including younger), but no bottles of pliny.

The title refers to all RR bottles, but based on the quoted post from BS, I'm assuming he was referring only to bottles of pliny. Unlike Pliny, bottles of supplication and consecration for example (we have plenty of both down here in Eugene right now), stick around on the shelf for a very long time. So I assume Terry is just referring to bottles of pliny.

Except for a list of of beers, the quote above is the whole post. Where it says "pulling bottle sales out of Oregon", I took to mean all bottles, but maybe it means just Pliny, IDK.

I'm honestly ok if they pull out of oregon. I rarely drink them anyway.

This doesn't bother me. I've haven't been lucky/dedicated enough to get any Pliny bottles for a couple years now, either here or in California. Ah well.

dont care that much since there are so many great options and I have had pliny probably 100 times. but it is still an awesome beer that I will pick up when I see it.

This is my take as well.

Yes, there are plenty of other great IPA's and DIPA's out there, including some that I prefer to Elder. Still, it remains one of my favorites, and I generally grab a bottle if I'm fortunate enough to be at 16 tons or Bier Stein when they have it in stock. I wouldn't make a special trip to the store to get it, as there are just too many other great options available to warrant that.

It would be the same if Descender suddenly became unavailable for some reason or another. There are plenty of other IPA's out there I like as much (or nearly so), so I can't say I'd be greatly put out if I suddenly couldn't have it, but it's a beer that I like and I enjoy having it around. So in that respect I'd be a bit disappointed if all of sudden I couldn't have it anymore. That's how I feel about Pliny, assuming it's true that bottles will no longer be available here.

Yeah, probably could have gotten my point across with half as many words. Sorry about that.

Oh, and Descender... that's an IPA made by GoodLife up in Bend. :-)

Shrug... I haven't bought a RR bottle in years, with the exception of an aged Sanctification at the last Beermongers Vintage Sale.

Don't want to go off-topic, but this isn't worth a separate thread, and it is RR related, so... If anybody follows Full Throttle Bottles on FB, they've got a post up now about a guy from JBLM asking if he can buy Pliny at gas stations in OR. Some expected tom foolery goes on, then our old friend from the No Rare Beer thread speaks up. The guy has a gift, I'll give him that.

I will be disappointed if RR is no longer in oregon. I like variety and like to have a pliny every other week when I have some on hand. The rotation won't suffer greatly as there are all sorts of good beers available in Portland, but pliny remains one of my favorite IPAs. I would feel a lot better if the current 3way was brewed forever.....or maybe Alpine should migrate north to help us neglected Portlanders.

    I will miss supplication greatly.
