Do people here generally drink out of glasses or the bottle and does it matter?

I'm thinking about getting a few glasses. Like maybe 4 as I find them.

    Do people here use steins?

    Chilled glass or room temp?

Chilled glasses mask the taste of the beer. I always use a room temp glass.

EDIT: and yes it does matter whether you drink out of the glass or the bottle. It's all about smelling what your drinking.

Ive had beer goggles :sunglasses: and they worked better after 2am.

I almost always drink out of the appropriate glass.

I rinse my glasses in cold water prior to pouring. I use Riedel snifters for stouts, BW's, etc. (because I have them for whiskey anyway, didn't buy them for beer specifically). I use pint glasses for most everything else. As long as I can get my nose in it, I am cool with whatever.

If you use a Sifter you will aerate your beer too much, (sorry couldn't help it)

A large Riedel red wine goblet has served me well the past couple of years...

Hefs deserve their own glorious glassware.

Seriously? I didn't know this, I was wondering why I couldn't find a branded beer snifter! I only have tulips, but was looking for a snifter... for no good reason!

    Thank you.

I like to pour the beer in a glass. A clean glass. Unlike with women, shape is not important...

I bought the libby set of beer glasses and I love them. Especially the pilsner glass BUT Most often I use my small victory tasting glass or goblet, i think it's called. And I love the sam adams perfect pint glass for lagers.

I've been relying on wine glasses more and more for 'bigger' styles, such as imperial stouts.

But for something like a pilsner? Fuck it, into the Samuel Smith-branded pint glass you go.

Definitely get proper glassware, and know that many BAs turn their nose up at shaker pints (standard pint glasses) since they do nothing to help out the beer; as suggested above, tulip glasses are perhaps the most versatile, along with teku glasses, though the latter is a bit harder to come across.

If you are limited in budget or access, instead of a shaker pint consider large red wine glasses.

I use a giant chunky mid-century parfait glass I found at a weird thrift store.
It holds twelve ounces, lets me see and smell the beer and it's heavy enough that I am not as worried I will break it. Best dollar I've spent all year.

People are gonna bust your chops on this for a reason...

Up the top is a search box. It i your friend. Put in glass, glassware, proper glassware, drinking vessel - anything associated with holding a beer for consumption. Choose search forum. You can even narrow it down and go to Beer Talk first. Stand in awe at the awesome-ness that will result...

Or even easier go here: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/101/glassware/

But is is another matter of personal taste and whatever works best for you. I love a snifter or tulip, but a nonic tumbler is fine too. Sam's Adam's perfect pint works. And you don't have to spend a fortune. You'd be amazed what you can find in a thrift shop, and my snifters are stemless wine glasses from WalMart. I do have my Spielgelau too...

stemless red wine glass, unless you are a crazy glass junkie like me, then always drink from a brewery specific glass

Does it really matter? Will you really tell a difference? Debatable depending on the beer. I am one of those people that gets overly consumed in any hobby I partake, so I have an appropriate glass and glass style for almost everything I drink but it's not necessary. I don't think it's going to make a big difference to most people what you drink out of as long as it's clean, but as @utopiajane already mentioned...this is a great set:

Out of a glass, almost always. I have a few styles here but when I travel, I take an unlabeled standard pint for the hotel beers. I prefer a snifter or an imperial pint so I can get most of the beer in, allow head development, look for clarity, floaties, dead mammals, and smell the beer.

I just bought a pack of 2 of TeKu's, IPA and Speigelau Stout. With my the rest of my collection I feel pretty confident with my choice of glassware.
