So, at the risk of sounding like a total idiot, what the heck is a loon? I assume a Belgian of some sort, but which ones constitute loons? I'm serious:grinning:
    Thanks,

It's an abbreviation of Cantillon, based off of a ridiculous mispronunciation by American beer geeks, in which Cantillon apparently rhymes with pantiloons.

Don't use it, just say Cantillon the proper way: can-tea-yonh, with that last nh sound there silent in a French sort of way.

Short for Cantillon, which I suspect is because some folks can't find the "C" "A" "T" "I" on their keyboards at the time. As for the beers themselves, it's the equivalent of autoerotic asphyxiation for some beer geeks who can't get excited over Drie Fonteinen or Hanssens.

It's based on some dude's ISO post a couple years ago on BA. He abbreviated Cantillon with Loon, and it became an instant meme.

That's funny, I remember reading that the 'pantiloon' one was the correct pronunciation and I could hardly believe it. My new question is, where is the emPHAsis in the proper pronunciation?
