So, even if you arrive AFTER 8:30 and are still one of the first 750, you'll still get a # right?

My guess is they'll make periodic passes from 8:30 'til 10:00am from the last stopping point on to hand out more numbers, then stop passing out numbers as soon as sales start. At least that's what I've seen at other events.

So I've never been up to a New Glarus release but I'll be coming up on Sunday. Just wondering if it's sort of a bottle share while standing in line. Or if New Glarus frowns on drinking in the parking lot. Thanks.

I saw a couple people drinking in line last year right in front of Deb and Dan so I'm presuming they didn't care too much.

I'll be coming up Sunday. 3 hour drive...I'll be watching the forums to see what the madness is like Friday and Saturday.

In this thread or one of the other threads other people had said it was frowned upon, but yes, some people did do it or got away with it. Bring the bottles...but ask before hand don't just start drinking out in public.

If they stop passing out numbers, how do they prevent people returning later in the day for more bottles? Name list?

I think bringing a bottle to share is alright. Sours, especially- if Dan stops by invite him to try some. Keeps it to the point.
I'm slightly worried about folks who plan on bringing multiple bombers of big beers. While offering up multiple rare BA big beers is awful generous, save it for Dark Lord Day. An event like that is better equipped to handle it. It's R&D Sour Day. Keep it classy and they'll allow you to taste in line.

ugh, why does EVERY beer release need to be turned into a bottle share?

I don't care how many of you have had the pleasure of sharing a bottle with Dan... I promise you that New Glarus, the business, frowns upon people pouring random bottles right outside of their establishment.

Wait in line with the rest of us, get your bottles, and then go inside and drink a few NG beers like a normal person. Or carry on to the next Great Taste tapping you're interested in. Is it that difficult hanging out for a couple hours, sober? Most of us are pretty easy to talk to...

I think bringing a bottle of TRB or Almanac to share with my family in line is alright. More of a picnic share than an all-out boozefest.

Wait. You guys are both from Illinois. This is like watching a Bears game.

while I wont be bottle sharing as its way to early and I got shit i gotta accomplish that day, have you ever been to the brewery before? The beer is served outdoors in the summer and you're encouraged to drink on their lawn. You did see that line about sharing beer with Dan himself. Though there's gonna be 500 people there tomorrow, the last 3 years were always a smallish group of sane and rational folks (and the same folks too) that are respectful. The new crowd of pokemon chasers that gotta collect and try em all will eventually ruin it so be cool and respectful as the bulk of us have been in the fast few years. I love that more and more people are getting into craft beer, but I don't love when those people are idiots.

and you couldn't drink at binnys because its a business in chicago and you'd be outdoors on their property where they don't have permits to serve (at the time) or permits for some sort of block party or anything. They could have easily lost their liquor license.

pmoney, looking forward to sharing a beer or two with you again this year. My wife and I were the ones standing next to you in line last year.

My guess is that New Glarus already has an outdoor consumption permit due to their beer garden. Not sure if it has hours stipulations, but there really isn't anyone close enough to complain about it.

Technically, there is probably a way for the NG police to ticket anyone drinking in the lot and maybe even in line, and bust the brewery for not following their license (if it doesn't allow for drinking at a certain time). But no way the NG police dept. is going to bother the Carey's unless they specifically ask for it.
Your description is exactly why I don't mind getting there at 7:00-7:30am. It'll still be relaxed, the increased # of beers should foil the increased demand nicely.

After last year's event, I'm really looking forward to seeing the completed backyard area. They were still working on it at the VSB release. Plenty of little nooks and crannies to hang out in. Jesus, Saturday can NOT get here fast enough...

We also brought homemade pickles, meats, and cheeses to enjoy with our serendipities.

This is where I'm at. Bottle shares don't really lend themselves to driving back to IL or doing a quick 17 miles of road cycling.

Bring your bike - arrive early get a #, saddle up and hit the hills, and then cool off while buying your beer(s) The country out there is stunning for riding.

I was wondering if I'd have enough time between getting a number and coming back at 10 to buy. 1.5 hours seems like enough time... but there was some warning about be back BY 10 or your number won't count, or something...

I'll probably just ride after getting the beer.
