800 mile turn and burn?! That's dedication. Was it worth it?

If I'm traveling any way I'll search out beers , otherwise not more than 20 miles .The exception was going to N.H. a couple of times for KTG day.

Take a plane, rent car, not cheap but it gets you there fast. sucks though on the amount of beer you can bring back, though one can mail packages.....

I drive 120+ miles pretty regularly, but for Brewery releases. I don't think I'd ever do that for a to buy a beer at a normal store.

I make a regular run once a year of 220 miles, just for beer. A few friends go with me, we hit the store, spend the night and hit the local scene. I make a few shorter trips, also. Take the wife and make a weekend of it.

We drive over 1000 to the GABF in Denver, but not really the same as a beer run. We make a week out of that, and bring back an impressive amount of beer!

I'd only go 25 miles out of my way, it's only beer.

70 miles to Russian River and back to get pliny and sours. Easily worth it though. Currently planning a huge road trip focused solely on beer. To me, beer is one of the best reasons to travel.

4-5 hours for Hill Farmstead. I've done two overnight trips, although I once did a there-and-back trip: 4 hours up, an hour around the state, another hour across the state, and a good 4.5 hours back. The day trip isn't something I plan on doing again, but I have no problem making a 1- or 2- night vacation (beercation) out of it.

Edit: sorry, I'm from Florida. We measure distance in hours, not miles. I have absolutely no idea how many miles any of those legs are. I know how fast I drive, so I could probably guess, but it would be just that: a guess.

Depending on the ABV and IBUs, I can usually get about 20 miles per gallon from beer (~ 2,000 calories). When I was younger, and in better shape, that number was closer to 25 miles per gallon. :astonished:

I live outside of Phoenix AZ and regularly drive (about 8-10 times per year) to San Diego and the surrounding area to bottle shop and acquire good beer not available here, a round trip of 658 miles. I also stop at Alpine which is right off of I-8 and do lunch, a pint, and bottle purchase. Always worth the trip and I will usually stay at least 2-3 days and do other things like eat some really good seafood, visit the beach, take in a game during baseball season, and of course check out a few breweries and even discover some outstanding beers not available to the general public but only on tap at the brewery I happen to be at. Usually at least once a year, I also make the pilgrimage to Russian River and Lagunitas, a round trip of 1664 miles. Of course we always stop in at other places on the way, and as it is wine country, the wife gets to do her share of bottle shopping as well. We get to see some remarkable views, meet some really nice people, and enjoy our time together. So yeah I drive a bit for beer!

If you count trips to breweries, 240 miles each way to visit Shorts Brewery. We pretty much picked the location for the beer, but we also made a nice weekend trip out of it too. I probably wouldn't drive over 20 miles or so to go to a beer store. There are just too many good choices just minutes from my normal travels.

Beer trips I've taken with friends (driven):

Atlanta to Winston Salem (Foothills Releases): Three times in 2012; fun trips each time. Though I froze my ass off at the Sexual Chocolate release.

Atlanta to Tampa: Original BA Hunahpu release in 2011 and 2014 Hunahpu release (wife went on this one). Both releases were actually crazy but had good times none the less. In 2011 I tried Good Gourd Almighty before most anyone else and it was delicious (and still is).

Atlanta to Charleston: Original BA Mexican Cake release last year. Extremely organized release and had a great time.

Atlanta to Chicago: Stops at Against the Grain, Three Floyd's, Half Acre, Goose Island Pub, Revolution, and a few other bars. I'd never been to Chicago so it was a good trip.

Each time it was with a good group of friends so it's the journey and the destination. We usually stay a couple days and make it a mini-trip so it's not just about the beer, but that's usually the main reason.
