Berkshire Brewing Company of South Deerfield, Massachusetts has put out a Brewers Series featuring all IPA's. This one is Vintage #1, their BBC Black IPA. The ABV is 5.0%. These are limited editions brews so when they're gone, they're gone. Nice roasted but somewhat mellow malt character intermixes with a bold and bitter earth hoppiness.

Greetings fellow NBSers from the eastern Hudson Highlands, of southern Ulster county NYS, where my thirsty ass sits enjoying a beer that has rocked my afternoon in such a great way. Backacre? WTF? Thanks to @Jeffboyardee123 for convincing me to shell out for it at Hunger Mountain. Right, as usual, my friend. Beautiful day, killer busy and sweaty morn at work, filled a 40 yd. container with OCC in 2 days!!!! Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

A Simcoe filled Sabbath for all you Zythos zealots and Perle pastors. Know that I take my beer as seriously as my Reformed-Protestant faith (P.C.A. to be exact, if you’re wondering).

And now, let us bow our heads in prayer:

    Our lager
    Which art in barrels
    Hallowed be thy drink
Thy will be drunk, (I will be drunk)
At home as it is in the tavern
Give us this day our foamy head
    And forgive us our spillage
As we forgive those who spill against us
And lead us not into incarceration
    But deliver us from hangovers
For thine is the beer, the bitter, and the lager
    Barmen.

    Now, onto the review:

Hard, two-step pour into a basic pint glass.

Aroma: Whisky, whisky, and a hint of whisky. NOT a bad thing. But this bad boy certainly is more brash and brazen than its pot-bellied piglet relative, of which I reviewed last NBS.

Appearance: When held up to natural light, I perceive a sienna or burnt sienna hue, bordering on burnt orange. Beige head that will leave dense, fine-filter, collanderish looking lacing.

Taste: Caramel malts greet me at the door and provide me a nametag; a bit of hops sit me down for small talk in the middle, rye deftly changes the music on the playlist. By the end, the oak and whisky are debating me in a philosophical discussion of rationalism versus imperialism. Being a heady type of guy (look what I did there) I’m definitely a rationalist, and the beer, considering I have to taste and smell, and look at it, says I’m dumb for being a rationalist AND a beer drinker.

Mouthfeel: Tiny bubbles, medium to medium-heavy coating, especially on the front on my tongue. I get a little bit of a syrupy feel going down, but nothing that turns me off.

Overall: I appreciate the difference between this and the non-wood version, each in their own right. I also like that though it’s aged in whisky barrels, the abv has remained the same, and Finch’s didn’t try to imperialize it. 8% abv at this size offering (650 mL) is quite enough. The booze is pretty well hidden, but you taste it in the end. It does not assault you from the moment you walk in the door for the party. Truly enjoyable and altogether drinkable of a pleasant, if hot, NBS in NWNJ.

    3.74/5

    ooooh... I couldn't resist!

I didn't have a new beer for today until about an hour ago. A local merchant gave me a can of Lavery Brewing Death or Glory Siason. This is not just a new beer for me but also a new style Black Saison. English Malt, American Hops' French Yeast and Belgian Dark Candy Sugar are listed as ingredients. A strange brew indeed and too sweet for me, tastes like a child's drink. If you like chocolate in your beer you might love this but it's not for me.

I don't get the cherry or dark fruit in the flavor. Maybe a little in the aroma. Very carmely with a crisp bite at the end. The yeast and rye together are very nice in the smell and taste. I get a little of the same malt/grain taste that the Denver Pale Ale has. This was bottled in Oct. of '13, but still very good. Will look for fresh this fall. Well done. Overall 3.75 conservatively. Great Divide continues to produce a solid lineup.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday everyone!

Well I am fairly new to BA and to New Beer Sunday, but yesterday I had someone educate me on some places I had never heard of. After than I saw this while stocking up and decided to give it a go. Witbiers are really a no brainer for, so even if it sucked I would still drink it. I got it in a 6 pack, however it was kinda pricey coming from Alaska.

    Belgian-style Witbier

and this tune from Rich O'Toole whom I saw live in concern @ the Tractor Tavern in Ballard opening for the Josh Abbott Band. He did a pretty damn good job!

Went to a nice “beer festival” yesterday that was moved into a parking garage due to shitty weather. The event was ran well, IMO and there was a lot of tasty beer to be had. I’d say the highlight for me was Three Brothers Atramentous, a belgian soured stout aged in Resolute barrels. Very tasty brew that, in a weird way, was pretty refreshing.

Today I was able to pop a brew new to me thanks to a good friend in Washington, Fat Tug by Driftwood Brewery. This opens up with a smack yo’ mamma pine flavor reminiscent of Dreadnaught. The more I sip/chug this amazing brew, the floral and fruit characteristics show up. The smell is soapy and piney and very little floral notes. The taste is soapy up front with pine and grapefruit on the end. Perfectly carbonated and wonderful mouthfeel.

Great Dead Song! Haven't heard it in years - I listened to this album repeatedly while going to college, drove one of my roomies nuts! Saw them play it in concert at Colt Park in Hartford, CT around '76 or '77.

    New Bock Sunday

    Hello all!

Beautiful day here in the Milwaukee area! I'm still trying Wisconsin beers! Today's was another winner from New Glarus: Back Forty Bock. I had the three that came in the variety pack, and enjoyed them all. Also in the variety pack are the Two Women (a very nice lager), Spotted Cow (nothing special, but certainly drinkable), and Moon Man (a wonderful pale ale). I've already had and reviewed the other three, so I will be enjoying a couple more New Glarus brews this evening!

I'm sure it had something to do with a few comments I made (about a touchy subject), and if so I'm sorry! I like the idea though, and I'll be sure to keep my mouth shut if you make another :stuck_out_tongue:

Finally a day off! Been busy traveling for work, and I always check out the local package stores when time permits. So I hauled back some brew this week. Today is a day to enjoy the fruits of my labor!

Starting off with an easy-drinking EOS Hefeweizen brewed by the Nebraska Brewing Company out of Papillion, NE, which is part of the metro area of Omaha. I hadn't heard of this brewery beforehand, and this is also the first time I am having a beer made this brewery.

A lively pour out of the can into my glass, yielding a nice head, with a plenty of carbonation. Golden in color, very light, but the first sip had the sweet taste of wheat, with a very pronounced banana flavor coming thru on the back end, almost like banana pudding. Clean finish. A tad too sweet, but I enjoyed it nonetheless, really nice for a summer day with an ABV of 4.80. I would definitely try other offerings from this brewery.

New Single Hopped Session IPA Sunday!

I first want to say nice Selfie @utopiajane I might produce a Selfie again in the near future. Ok back to basics, the beer!

This pours beautiful like liquid Sunshine. Nice golden crystal clear body with a solid white soapy head. The aroma is intense! Huge lemon grass with grapefruit pulp and zest. In the background nice dank resinous notes. I like! Time for the flavor. Huge hits of citrus (grapefruit, oranges). There is also that resinous hop quality as well that I'm loving right now! There is an underlaying of stone fruits as well, not as dominate as the citrus and resinous qualities. Cracker malts leaving a nice bit of sweetness. This beer finishes semi-dry with a refreshing bitterness with a lingering citric and resinous aftertaste. The mouthfeel is a light bodied and popping carbonation. Very nice!

Overall: I have found my new favorite Session IPA! This beer is enjoyable throughout and showcases the Citra hop without flaw! I'm glad that Green Flash took on a single hopped IPA. There isn't anything really missing out of this brew for me. This brew is recommended! This brew gets the grade of an A.

Cheers my fellow New Beer Sunday-ers!

I thought people could incorporate a selfie into this thread if they really wanted to. I guess we will have to wait for @LeperJim to officially declare a selfie day over in WBAYDN. :sunglasses:

    Oh and thanks @Shroud0fdoom .
