I use to buy a different beer (at the store or bar) with every purchase. I want to try as many different beers as possible so I know what's out there. Recently, I've gone in the complete opposite direction - I've been drinking Weihenstephan as if no other beer exists in the world.

Have you guys ever entered this zone? You just crave one beer for weeks or maybe months at a time? I'm denying myself the experience of all the other delicious beers that are out there but these Weihenstephans are just so damn good.

I'm primarily a stout drinker, but I do know the zone of which you speak. For me, it tends to be heavy German lagers, especially Spaten Oktoberfest or Paulaner Salvator. (Moretti La Rossa is another favorite doppelbock of mine.) I also have a fondness for English ale, especially Abbot Ale and nitro Old Speckled Hen.

None of these beers is considered best of style, but they have these flavor profiles (i.e. maltiness) that I find so satisfying. There's something to be said for simplicity, too.

I've been doing this with Real Ale Gose since it came out, but only by myself. I still pick up bottles to trade. When I'm with friends or my fiance' wants to try something, then I open up something different for us to share.

It's not the only beer I want, it's just great for me to drink on the days where it's just me drinking.

Well, I still rotate other stuff in, but GoTo is my primary beer diet. Drakes 1500 help this spot for about 2 years, but it's been tasting weird this year.

I've sometimes cycled 2-3 beers but never just one beer. No matter how good one beer is I always crave variety.

I know this condition of which you speak. You have to drink through it to get to the other side

I haven't had this happen to me yet. I rarely buy six-packs.

P.S. If Weihenstephaner's your lover, you may want to change your avatar.

I can't commit to any one beer and be happy. Too many good ones to choose from to be stuck on just one but there are fall back beers. For me when Lagunitas Sucks is out in six packs I ALWAYS have some in the fridge to go to and share with friends.

I've been drinking St Lupulin like it was my job, I havent even looked in my "cellar fridge" in about a month.

I get this way with seasonal beers that I really enjoy, it's almost as if I feel I need to get my fill before they are gone.

I haven't encountered this situation yet, but if it did happen, Weihenstephan would probably be the brewery that would bring it on. Can't really think of another beer that might do it. Certainly not an American IPA or similar. I'm getting burned out by American hops faster and faster these days.

What you're doing is typical of BMC drinkers. They identify with one beer and never drink anything else. I know Coors Light, Bud, and Labatt Blue drinkers who have been drinking the same beer for 20+ years. The bartenders at their locals just hand them their regular when they walk in. No need to ask. Seems really boring to me. At least you're doing it with a good beer. Still, I always seek variety.

Brand loyalty is what will save many a brewery if/when the current "craft" boom finally experiences a bust. I drink Spaten and Olde Mecklenburg beers almost exclusively these days. Oh yea, and homebrew.

The only beer I consistently buy is Hop Drop because its very good and one of the freshest beers I can get. Other than that I buy some other beers I've had before that I really like but I try to always buy at least 1 new beer.

I tend to think that in the pub drinking the same beer all night is usually the best way to go, especially with lower gravity beers that tend to taste better the more you drink, but I do get tempted by stuff I haven't tried before, although obviously you run a risk when you do that.

It's a balancing act, I guess, but an enjoyable one.

It's a phase. I went through it as well. For a while, all I bought was Resin and Golden Monkey. Now I buy what seems interesting. You will grow out of it, when curiosity gets your motor running again.
