    I recently curtailed my drinking from a 6 pack a night to a planned one a week. My plan is to stop at my bottle shop each Friday, buy a single 6 pack (no mix a six) and drink a few Friday and the rest Saturday. I see a lot of upside to this;

    1. my consumption is kept at a planned and reasonable level
    2. my beer budget will be modest.
    3. Choosing only one beer a week will force me to really pay attention to the beer I really want to drink.
    4. I will probably look for a variety of beers rather than drink the same beer out of habit.
    I think this week's six will be Weihenstephan Original.

    There must be a real sense of occasion at each bottle opening

    Did not expect that.

    Great work though. I know you think people were trolling you in the other thread that you created but I think there was some concern for your well-being there. Aside from the obvious benefits, you'll really start appreciating beer again.

    Good for you if can cut back to 6pack a night to 6pack a week, that is a big delta.

    I'm certainly more of a 6 to 12pack a week drinker with some flexibility if something special going on or I go out during the week for an event. But personally I would not rule out the occasional mix 6 pack, growler or special purchases for something I want to try. One benefit of drinking less is that I justify myself to spend a little more on what I do drink, but I also don't think beer has to be expensive to be enjoyed. I also don't finish the beer I buy the week I buy it - some weeks I might get stocked up on variety and then buy nothing for a few weeks as I work down the non cellar beer I have in fridge.

    Congrats on your choice! I have recently cut down on my consumption as well. My appreciation for the beer I drink has really gone up. Also, instead of going to the store for beers I've been drinking down my cellar and have been enjoying some of the great beers that I've collected over the last few years.

    I would take it slow my dude. Cut back to a 12 pack per week. from a 6 pack a night, unless you were exagerating, is 42 beers a week. Going from 42 to 6... Ummmm thats bound not to work.

    I wish I could do that. I am at about 1 bomber or 1 12oz a day except on weekends when it's 1 bomber and 1 12pack per Sat and Sun... I believe I will die soon of liver failure too

    wow, here I was thinking that having a beer per night was already on the higher end of the spectrum

    Thanks! Good on you, a six pack a night is far too much. Is that every night week in and week out? You need to give your body a break. I am 49, usually have 3 or 4 a night on weekends with some occasional weekdays thrown in and worry that is too much.

    I have instituted a rule for myself - one beer on a weeknight (M-Th) if and only if I went to the gym or did some sort of physical activity (walk, run, bike etc.). Weekends though, fair game to drink whatever. I find I am much more motivated to go to the gym if I reward myself with a beer after.

    578 consecutive days of drinking. In the past 3 years you could have counted the days I didn't drink on one hand and had a few digits to spare. My liver got a 6 day break last week and is on the 4th day off from drinking this week so far.

    I was drinking at least 2 cases a week (48 beers) plus Gin, Rum, Scotch and Bourbon. Altogether over 60 units of alcohol a week. I definitely needed to change my life.

    Modest? If my math is correct, it will be about 15% of what it was. What are you going to do with all of the extra money you will have?
