i know the answer for me but curious what y'all would say/do. these are again on a local shelf. over the last few months, they've been put out in small amounts (2-4 bottles at a time) & it's been very random when they go on the shelf. my question is, they were originally $5.50 - knowing the original shelf price, factoring in the particular brand's demand as well as the knowledge in some instances, there were some exorbitant prices at release, would you say at this point, $7 per is a reasonable price/mark-up - or no?

I wouldn't pay it. I also got plenty during the initial release from 19.99-21.99 a four pack. If I missed out totally I would be more inclined to buy. Bottom line is if people are purchasing them at that price, it's a reasonable mark up.

It's not on any shelves I've seen around here, yet.

A question: What size are the bottles? For a 12 oz. that's a little high. For a bomber, though, I'd say it's okay.

$7 for a single is very reasonable. Anytime you buy a single it's more than the average of a 4 or 6 pack it originally came in.

I'd guess it depends on the individual, and how much you want them. The most I paid was about $28 for a four pack as some stores in Chicagoland can be pricey for bourbon county and the variants. This equates to about the same so I would probably grab them at $7 if it were me.

I also happen to be of the opinion that bcbs is the benchmark for bourbon barrel aged stouts, and one of my personal favorite brews.

That's actually not a bad price depending on location. Hell, I saw single bottles for $8 - $10 in Michigan at release, let alone 9 months later.

This, not to mention it's not unheard of for BCBS to go for $10 a bottle even in its home state. Seven dollars retail for a single of this beer is actually fairly cheap. Whether or not I would personally pay that depends more on my mood, the time of year and how much BCBS I have at the given time. I would be more inclined to pay that for a 2012 than a 2013, personally.

these are 12.oz, 2013 (last year's release) - the question was whether the added storage fee is outrageous or with-in reason, given the product.

wait. i probably misread or misunderstood your statement. a $7 bomber of BCBS is just o.k.?

Going rate here so if you want it I'd buy it. Digging the tacky cut up box and grocery price tag.

In NY you can still find a few singles around for $6-$8. The occasional 4-pack from $25-$30. I'd say it's reasonable as long as they were stored correctly.

That is normal based on all the prices I saw and still see in NYC area. I could go buy a 4 pack right now for $28.

As others have stated - standard for NYC, and definitely worth it if you missed out or are suffering from a BCBS craving

wonder. do you think it's still available there because they are $28 a 4pk, as opposed to say $22 or less per 4pk?

@Rekrule has the 'answer': "Bottom line is if people are purchasing them at that price, it's a reasonable mark up."

I really wish that beer consumers would not 'over' pay for beer since that will drive the industry to just price higher and higher and ...

    Cheers!

Possibly - would say it's more likely that there was just such a good supply. But yeah of course you take the price down to a certain level and they'll disappear

I'm surprised they're even still on the shelf at that price, based on my experience of trying to find this otherwise elusive beer in my region (Kentucky). Back in law school (about 2 years ago) there was an *ahem* "local connoisseur" (read: hoarder) who would call ahead to check on delivery dates for BCBS and come in to the bottle shop the morning of the delivery and purchase every single last bottle of BCBS that the store received from the distributor - every 4pk, all of the bombers, all in one fell swoop.

One night, I walked into the store looking to find a single bomber to take to an informal get together with some other beer-drinking law school buddies, and the bottle shop's "beer guy" asked if I needed any help finding anything. When I asked if he thought they had any BCBS in stock, he shook his head and chuckled and told me the story about this guy. I asked if they ever thought about instituting a bottle limit so that other people might perhaps get a chance to try the beer, he indicated that the idea was considered, but instead the store just decided to mark the price up somewhere north of an extra 20% because he knew the guy would pay it without question. And sure enough he did. And sure enough I've still yet to find a bottle of it on the shelf (in fact, I've had to settle for trying GI's Nightstalker, as it has been their only imperial stout I have found on the shelf so far).

In short, for $7 I'd jump at the opportunity to get my hands on a single bottle.

I'd guess it's a tech high, but not outrageous.

    Well, allright, it's not bad.

lol. this is literally a corner mom & pops - the "grocery" tag is NOT a gimmick. he sells more bread, Swishers (i believe they are called) & airplane size mini bottles of liquors than "craft" beer.

wonder if this was the same place. a few friends reported that there was a shop in KY (i believe in Louisville but don't remember the exact city) that was charging $45 per 4pk of BCBW. sounded like they may have been reprimanded behind it too. what was weird was their BCBS was only slightly higher than usual, around $24/4pk IIRC.
