I believe Prairies "basic/year-round" lineup is just Ale, Birra, and Bomb at the moment...so you (and stores) not missing much in terms of selection, as Bomb and Ale are on quite a few shelves around town, and Birra is arriving with Funky Gold Mosaic as we speak.

wonder why they stopped making it.

I think were extremely lucky as Texans with their distro. Were pretty much getting all the limiteds. And some exclusives.

I was under the impression that Standard, Somewhere Sour, Hop, and Ale were also part of the everyday.

I think they Standard was discontinued once they started making Birra. Somewhere was a collaboration with Saint Somewhere so I would be surprised if it was an everyday, but I could be wrong. I hope Hop is part of the everyday, love that beer.

From one of their blog posts earlier this year:

"Now, in our steps forward to provide you with our year round lineup including Birra, Prairie Ale, and Bomb!..."

As TTU John mentioned Birra replaced Standard, and Hop is coming out again in July as referenced above by Ranier.

This hit shelves today in Oklahoma. (Cherry funk) Just popped one. Don't waste your time/money. Seriously. It's like drinking a wine cooler.

It's like a berliner weisse with cherries. I was let down. I wanted a cherry monster. Oh well.

That still sounds good, but a $10 cherry berliner doesn't.

"Like a berliner" I'm hearing its not sour, just slight funk. Tart though. Prairie's calling it a sour ale. I haven't been puckered up by Prairie's sours but I do enjoy them. I'm still looking forward to this one.

That's a shame, IMO, as I liked Standard and don't care at all for Birra.

I enjoyed the C Funk, but it didn't knock my socks off. Very drinkable, but if you are looking a mouth puckering/enamel eating sour, this aint it.

No idea why people feel a sour ale has to be enamel melting to be enjoyable. I haven't known Prairie's sours to be very sour before and don't expect that point of view to change.

I was never comparing it to a "Enamel Melting Sour". It's marketed as a sour ale with cherries. This beer has almost zero sour character, but I'm not complaining about the sourness of this beer. I'm complaining about the fact that it is dull with no layering of flavors and has no start or finish. It has some very, very light acidic saltiness with a weak cherry dullness from front to back. That's just my opinion. If you want to spend your money on that kind of beer then go for it. Prairie makes awesome beers but I didn't enjoy this one.

I really wasn't directing my comment at you in particular. I just find it interesting that there's already complaints that it's not sour enough, when Prairie doesn't seem to make very sour beers. I think that sour has become like Double IPAs (way back) when it was all about bitter but no balance.

Sorry you felt I lumped you into my post because I didn't. You seem to have valid and well thought out points on the beer, which is what I look for when someone offers their opinion.

Not to get too OT since I haven't had this one, but I agree. I've had quite a few (popular) American sours that were basically 1-dimensional sour bombs. There's something to be said for subtlety and balance.

I eagerly await for this one to hit Austin.

Right on point with the overly sour sours becoming the overly hopped DIPAs.

Especially considering some of the hop bombs were/are perfect to me and some beers that are incredibly sour are awesome, but not every crazy sour-sour or every crazy hoppy-DIPA is good.

Exactly. There are very sour or hoppy beers that are great. I'm just trying to be aware when I start hearing that something isn't sour enough. I'm not trying to discredit opinions from people who've actually tried the beer. Just trying to stay aware when I hear things like that.
